In PwC. Usual cohort timeline for promotion from associate to senior associate is 3 years.
Just got promoted to senior associate in July after 2 years at the firm.

This engagement is new to me and I’m not familiar with the technical aspects of it. I’m still learning but have been very good on all my old projects which is why I was promoted early to senior. Today a director on this new project gave me 70% doing what’s expected and 30% inconsistently meeting expectations. I’m confused why, told me I can meet with them to work on it.

I’m already burnt out and only try to work 8 am to 5 pm but get my work done. I stay late if it’s really needed (aka someone planned bad and now a deliverable has to be done tonight - I usually stay if I don’t have other family commitments).

I’ve not heard any bad feedback from my managers directly but this director. The director hasn’t given me any feedback except directly on this snapshot.

I’m honestly pretty scared of this director because they are very intense and call the team out in front of the client too.

All other snapshots have been doing what’s expected with a mix of impressive and above and beyond. This snapshot is the one and only snapshot in my 2 years here where I’ve gotten inconsistently meeting expectations.

Should I start looking seriously for other jobs?

I applied to 3 of the big 4s a couple months ago for a very niche field. I applied to Senior Consultant and Manager roles at all 3 firms for the same role. I got offer from one firm (Senior Consultant) and I am in the final stage (partner interview) of another and I think I’ll get an offer (Senior Consultant). The one I got an offer from have completed background checks and started my visa processing.

Now, I’ve gotten an invite from KPMG (1st stage) 1 hr interview for Manager for the same role. Obviously it’s a higher salary and quicker career progression. What will you do in my shoes? Should I go ahead with the KPMG interview and then decide if/when I get an offer? How will this affect my relationship with the firm I accepted an offer with? It’s an extremely niche field so I’m a bit nervous that if I burn this bridge, I would limit my options even further. Also, how long does it take KPMG to recruit?

1. What are the REAL average hours (Off-Season vs. Busy Season)?

I’ve heard horror stories online about people pulling 55-hour weeks in the off-season and spiking up to 80–100 hours during busy season. Is that standard for the Dallas market, or is it mostly hyperbole? What does a realistic week actually look like from May–November vs. January–March on typical Dallas commercial/financial services clients?

I’ve been in Big 4 regulatory advisory for about 10 months now and honestly I really dislike the role.

I mainly do regulatory reporting for banks and already know I don’t want to continue in this area long term.

I’m not planning to leave right now, but I’m wondering how long it makes sense to stay. I’ll be up for promotion to Senior Associate next cycle, so I’m not sure if it’s worth sticking it out until then for the title and experience before moving on.

Would getting promoted to Senior Associate make a meaningful difference if I plan to move into a different area anyway? Or should I just start looking once I hit around a year?

I have managed software partnerships in the automation space with the Big 4 firms since the early days of the RPA market.

With agentic AI, I have seen a shift with firms in the US from using automation platforms (RPA, BPM, Case Management, agentic orchestrion) to focusing on the tool layer. For example, Microsoft Azure, Foundry, Fabric, Copilot Studio + NVIDIA or Azure AI Foundry + OpenAI + Anthropic + AWS + others

Creating custom automation solutions on top of all these tools would typically create lots of complexity and ongoing maintenance.

Why would you choose to work at the tool layer and build custom solutions versus buying automation platforms like RPA or agentic orchestration to leverage the AI tools and create the solutions? Do these platforms not meet client requirements? Is there more money to be made with custom solutions?

I graduated with a B.Com from Delhi University in June 2026 and joined KPMG (BSR & Co. LLP) in Noida as an Audit ADC Analyst through campus placements. This is my first full-time job, and my current CTC is ₹3 LPA.

While I’m grateful for the opportunity, I’m not enjoying living in Noida and would prefer to build my career in Hyderabad, where I’d be much happier.

My current plan is to stay at KPMG for about one year, gain relevant experience, and then start applying for jobs in Hyderabad.

I have a few questions:

\- Will 1 year of experience at KPMG improve my chances of getting a good job in Hyderabad?

\- What kind of roles should I target with this experience (audit, internal audit, accounting, finance, consulting, etc.)?

\- Is it better to start applying while still employed and resign only after getting an offer?

\- If anyone has made a similar move from Noida (or another city) to Hyderabad after a year of experience, I'd love to hear about your experience.

Hey everyone, would love some honest takes on this.

I’ve got a Master’s in Engineering Physics and I’ve been a Systems Engineer for about 4 years at a software company, working on railway projects (requirements, functional analysis, integration testing). Got bumped up to Team Lead recently.

On the side, I did a postgrad in General Management and then an executive program in Corporate Finance.

I also spent 3 months part-time doing valuation work at a corporate VC, helping with DCF stuff and exit scenarios on one portfolio company.

Now I’m thinking about jumping into Strategy & Transactions at a Big 4 firm. Trying to figure out if this actually makes sense or if I’m kidding myself.

Some things I’m wondering:
- Does the engineering background actually help here, or does it just look weird on a CV for this kind of role?

- Is 3 months of part-time valuation enough to talk about credibly, or will people see through that immediately?

- If you came from a technical background yourself, what caught you off guard once you were actually doing the job?

I am about to commence working as a graduate. I have been allocated to the professional services sector of the audit department (law, consulting and real estate etc) and was wondering whether this suits what I want to do long term.

Post qualified I want to either move into industry as a financial controller or stay in practice but move to deal advisory.

Having said that, does this audit sector suit my ambitions or should I plan to move sector. If I need to move what sector would you suggest and how easy is this/when would the best time be to move.

So first to let you all know I'm an Engineer undergrad with specialization in Electrical and electronics engineering, I'm currently preparing for Data analyst/ Data scientist roles.Im currently in my final year and sitting in College Placement, and as far as now my condition has been abysmal, I'm also applying for jobs off campus continuously and not getting any replies from any place I've applied to, I'm going insane i really need a job I don't know what to do.

After the Western sanctions against Russia for the full scale invasion on Ukraine, all of the Big Four "left" Russia and its subsidiaries on the country were separated from its global operations, becoming independent firms. With that in mind, do Russian companies still have access to the Big 4 services by other markets that haven't imposed sanctions on them? Such as the Caucasus countries, Central Asia, Serbia, Turkey, Greece etc

He works in the big 4 and I thought they only work extra during busy season. What is going on with him? Is he ok?

I was interning at big 4 when one of my managers asked me what my caste was.

Honestly, I was really caught off guard. I didn't even know what to say at the time. Maybe they meant it casually, but I found it pretty weird, especially coming from a manager at work.

What surprised me even more was that this happened in Mumbai. I just never expected someone to ask me something like that in a professional setting.

I'm not mentioning the person's ethnicity or background because I don't want this to turn into a generalization about any particular community. I'm just sharing what happened because it genuinely shocked me.

Has anyone else had something like this happen during an internship or while working in corporate India?

Curious to hear about how does the 401k work and what would be a reasonable allocation. I plan on maximizing Roth IRA contributions, and i thought about the match for 401k but couldn’t find what the match is or how does it really work. Im thinking of just sticking to a percent and calling it?

I have no loans like student debt and ive paid off my car, plus I’ll be living at home for a bit, so i can be a bit more aggressive in investing and taking more risks now, after building back my HYSA. Money will come back.

Hi all, I was apart of the recent layoffs at Big4 Audit. Since then I have been grinding CPA exams and applying for jobs. I have just about a years of experience and I have a couple options for job offers but I am not sure which way to go. I need some advice any and all is welcome.

Offer 1, Industry corporate accountant working with consolidations. This role seems a bit challenging given my experience(they were looking 3-4 yrs), but I beat out people with a few more years experience and they seemed to really like me. Not entirely sure if I will love that role but my recruiter brought up a point if I stay in public accounting I will be interviewing for pretty much the same role a few years later down the line. 5k base salary bump with decent benefits and bonus. 45-1hr commute. 5 days in the office. The teams seemed pretty old school but good people and some career mobility within the company.

Offer 2, Go to a midsized firm back in auditing. I am thinking to gain more experience to really open up some options later on in my career. I would be working mainly with commercial (retail, tech, etc) clients and some nonforprofit (yuck). I am currently trying to see if I would be considered a 2nd year or 1st year in this role. Obviously, if I am a staff 2 it will provide a larger salary. If I am considered staff 1 I will be 5 days in a week. If staff 2 will get 4 days in 1 WFH. This job is a 8k pay cut if I go in as a staff 1 but only a 30 min commute. Owned by private Equity

Option 3, Fully remote job in the industry I worked in at Big4. Don't entirely love insurance but it definitely offers some flexibility to get my cpa exams done and takes out all of the commuting time. The teams seemed like very good people and flexible. Only thing is I am a pretty social person and I think working from home that much will eventually drive me crazy. Only a few thousand less than what I was making.

While I don't know much about these companies, there weren't any major red flags besides the midsized firm being owned by PE. That did worry me a bit but I also don't see myself being there too long if I were to go. Get the senior title and leave?

hey everyone, i didn’t get a return offer after doing my big 4 internship this summer. this was my second internship with the firm and i really envisioned starting my career there, so i’m still pretty bummed about it and definitely still harping on what happened

i’m currently a masters student graduating summer 2027 and i’m honestly just really stressed about finding a full time role in this job market. i’m applying for winter 2027 internships too, but i’m not relying on them because i don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket and end up feeling this let down again

for context, i had around a 3.9 gpa in undergrad at a pretty good business school and my masters is fully funded through the deloitte foundation scholarship, so i know on paper i have a decent background, but i still feel kinda hopeless about recruiting right now

also want to preface that not getting the return offer wasn’t performance related. the situation was pretty unusual and the decision honestly didn’t make much sense to me, but it’s been made and there’s nothing i can really do about it now :(

has anyone been in a similar situation and still ended up getting a full time offer at another big 4/firm? or just have any advice for recruiting after not getting a return offer?

Ive started my grad scheme and was just wondering what work life balance is like. Ive mainly got college first year so not really expecting to work overtime first year.

From what ive heard from people, most days finish at 5-6. In busy season some later days but not too common. I know this probably depends on team and client but just wanted to ask whats been your experience

I’m looking to get back into audit after a brief gap for personal reasons. Naturally I applied to all four firms hoping for at least one or two to reach out.

I’m a little lucky as all of them got back to me, and now in the final stages. Got a written offer from one of them and expecting another this week.

That means I’d have to decline three firms which really makes me worried. Will rejecting them means shutting down all future opportunities there? I’m just thinking of the worst case where I find out I’m not a good fit in my chosen firm, but now I have no easy alternative.

How can I soften my rejection of their job offers without shutting down future roles? Thank you!!
