JMS AMA Official AMA for JMS
This is the official AMA for JMS. Both JMS and B5 books (Captain Jaclyn) will be responding to questions.
If you ask questions about the books or the book store closing, Jaclyn will be taking them.
JMS will answer for about an hour, and might not be able to get all questions answered.
Some people (including me) might answer questions that are well known.
Like "Why wasn't Ivanova in season 5".
Let's try to keep questions what we don't know yet.
You can also ask questions about JMS returning to the Spider-Man comic or his other works, but this is /r/babylon5. He might prioritize that.
Please note that I will not be coordinating with Joe. I will not be in a phone call with him or on a chat (not that I wouldn't take his phone call; Jaclyn has my cell phone; he can call me anytime he wants). He decides that he answers, and he alone.
Finally, any story ideas will deleted. Do not post any story ideas.
Note, the AMA answers only start at: 3 PM EST, Noon PST, 8PM GMT
And my personal thanks to Captain Jaclyn for coordinating this with me, and to JMS himself, the man, the myth, the legend! For agreeing to this, but also for Babylon 5, Crusade, Jeremiah, Sense8, a ton of comic books and a few books!
Oh, and for She-Ra, the reboot couldn't have occured without his series bible for the original, and even for his work on Ghostbuster and Murder She Wrote!
IMPORTANT NOTE FROM JMS He would prefer not to get into stories that never happened, data points of subsequent character arcs, or alternate timelines.
JMS IS NEARLY OUT OF TIME!

What the hell is this show?
I dipped my toe into it when I saw full episodes available for free on YouTube. At first I thought it was horrible and schlocky 1990s low budget sci fi, but why am I so compelled to continue watching?!
I’m on episode 3 of season one. I can’t stop watching now.

My big problem with Babylon 5...
By Season 3, it would be 12:30 AM on a work night, I'd get to the end of an episode, and I'd say "Goddammit, now I have to watch the next one and find out what happens!!!"
There was a point in Season 4 where I had to force myself to turn off the TV every night, or else I would be up for hours. "Okay, that's the last one for tonight, I HAVE to go to bed now!"
I love this show.

Not the sound of a PPG, but of two Vorlon-related storylines converging

Just noticed these dialogues and thought of posting it here
Stumbled across B5 and currently watching it for the first time. To say that every other form of entertainment, has been put on a pause, would be an understatement.

I don't know if I would have put it quite like that but it's good to see some press attention even if it's screenrant.

Green or purple?
I was at a water park yesterday and these were the colours of one of the attractions. I immediately thought of this sub. Then decided this attraction wasn’t for me. It had nothing to do with the attraction itself. Nuh-uh
To make it worse they asks “which do you want?”

The Gangs all (almost) here!
Save the 2nd G'Quan, the Sko'kar and Da'kar my Narn fleet's done, now with the fighters :) The EA Squadron's all done too and I put letters on them to make them easier to ID when playing.

B5 RPG stuff
Bought a few of the second edition of the B5 RPG. All written by Gareth Hanrahan. The Final Flight of Santiago is one of my favourite RPG scenarios.

one of the darkest episodes, the Illusion of Truth Spoiler
It is kind of funny to say it since so many episodes, including the torture ones are dark. But the betrayal of trust on this one, just wow.

1994 Walter Koenig interview
He does mention working on B5 (this was just after Mind War) among other parts of his career.

In Memory of... Coda
Individual shots from that same DragonCon 2001 (back when they used to allow you to take candid photos of the actors in the Walk of Fame): Richard, Mira, Jerry, and as a bonus, Jason Carter (or, as we called him back then, "Poetry Boy"), who, thank goodness, is still with us.

Is there any kind of scene/moment/character interaction you wish we got to see on the show but didn’t?
Even though it never made sense and I get why they didn’t, a conversation between these two would’ve been rly funny

Are there any fanfics that do a better job at worldbuilding human cultures on space colonies?
So aside from some xenophobia and anti-Earth sentiments you can tell that they didn’t put too much effort into developing cultures on the space colonies, compared to The Expanse. In short they made no effort to creating unique human spacenoid cultures with their own language, lifestyle, material culture, and their own unique set of values, norms, and beliefs.
But I have been wondering, are there any fanfics that do a better job at worldbuilding human space cultures in Babylon 5? If not, how would you worldbuild human space culture in Babylon 5? What common values, norms, and beliefs would they have? Would they be as xenophobic as their Earther counterparts? And what would their material culture look like in terms of art, games, music, food etc?

I don't know why I hate third space so much
It's such a frustrating movie. Some of those made for TV movies are just aggravating as all get out. They feel very rushed or very experimental. I'm still going to watch them all but it just depresses me every time I watch third space. I think the biggest thing is that we have to come up with some race that's more powerful than the vorlons or shadows and that's just stupid
