Lots of people responding COVID or the flu so here’s a different one. I Triggered diabetic keto acidosis after running out of insulin during a hard backpacking trip in Wyoming. Ended up vomiting every 10-15 minutes for 8+ hours, while hiking multiple miles (above 10k ft) with a decently full pack. I felt like I was vomiting up my intestines and have never felt that depleted of everything my body needs to function in my life. Ultimately I required a rescue via helicopter and then an hour+ life flight on another helicopter to the nearest hospital with insulin. Spent 24 hours in the hospital in WY getting stabilized, got discharged too quickly, drove myself home to CO, and had to go to the hospital for electrolyte imbalances 3 more times in the next few days because my body was so out of wack. It took me over a month to feel like myself again.
