This was the most painful thing I have ever had in my life which was a dry socket after my wisdom teeth were removed. Three healed fine and one got dry socket. I took 30 Tylenol 3’s within a few days hoping for relief and it did absolutely nothing. I went to the dentist they applied a patch it helped but then that fell out a few hours later. I cried for a good 5 days then I found out about clove oil I paid 5$ for it OTC at the pharmacy I soaked some in gauze and packed my dry socket hole. It was amazing the pain instantly stopped and it healed within a few days. I will never underestimate nerve pain ever again.
Same thing happened to me exactly, except before I discovered the clove oil I was eating Tylenol 3s like candy and ended up not shitting for over a week. Had to go to the ER and the hottest doctor in the world (think Chase from House MD) had to stick his finger up my bum to dislodge whatever was compacted in there. Honestly I’d take the dry socket pain over the shame I felt that day
I cackled cause the same thing happened to me I was so preoccupied w the pain and the bottle of Tylenol # 3 that did absolutely
nothing and I realized after 8 days wait a second…I haven’t gone to the bathroom! And I felt so dumb because I’m a nurse and I know that narcotics will do that. I about died after taking dulcolax and PEG. It worked omg yeah 0/10 experience…do not recommend not going to the BR X 8 days for sure.
Honestly, tylenol 3 is the worst medicine for major pain. It literally does nothing. I've told people that tylenol 3 is about as effective as your mom kissing your booboo all better. I've seen doctors prescribe it for women after giving birth. Those poor women. They're going to be feeling all of that pain for weeks until they heal. All because some doctors are too afraid to prescribe actual pain meds that work.
A decent percentage of people don’t metabolize codeine properly depending on your liver enzymes. I was all why is this taken recreationally it’s useless lol I suspect that’s why it felt like it did absolutely nothing for me…
Literally got my wisdom teeth out last week, I was so paranoid about dry sockets… I can’t believe some people just go right back to regular eating afterwards
I was so paranoid about it after being warned that I took basic pain meds and kept the good stuff unless I really needed it or dry socket happened. I was lucky enough not to get it but looking back I probably could have used a few more of the good ones.
I had the narcotics when I had dry socket, and they didn't even touch it. Ibuprofen did more. I can't take ibuprofen or any nsaids anymore, so I really never want to lose another tooth. It honestly motivates me to brush and floss for life.
I was also paranoid about it after my own wisdom tooth removal. The blood clot that was supposed to cover the hole disappeared overnight. Thankfully, I didn't end up getting dry socket, but I had to wash the hole after every meal, otherwise things stuck in there.
I was terrified of dry socket, yes. But I found out the hard way that sometimes the dentist doesn’t read your x-ray right. They completely missed the fact that I had two wisdom teeth on the one spot, note… now would be a great time to mention that I also was awake for the procedure, and soon discovered that the Novocain stuff doesn’t work for me. Anyway, they pulled the one with the equivalent of Ora-gel and the roots of the tooth were wrapped around another one under it that was close to my sinuses at that point. Guess who was sat on and strapped down for most of the procedure… yup. Me :) anyway that next week I called the office and was like… I can feel that there’s still a tooth in my gum??? They swore that it was completely out and they had the entire tooth, I go back for more x-rays and they go… oh… whoops? Anyway. I want to tell them… Thanks for a fear of dentists… I can no longer walk into a dentist office without a panic attack, and even driving past the building makes me tense up like a half rabid dog.
Almost got this 2 times for smoking from the bong. One of those times i saw the “scab” or wound slip out of my mouth and promptly put it back in with no repercussions.
That’s enough internet for one lifetime. The only thing worse than thinking about my 14 and year old fully conscious self getting her teeth whacked out with a hammer and chisel is this comment right here.
Yeah when they tell you not to eat solid food or smoke, they really mean don’t do that. No pizza lunchable, Marlboro red or bong rip is worth it…I
was in high school and ended up crawling into my mother’s bed sobbing from pain lol
I got a dry socket in all 4 of my wisdom teeth when they were removed. I was on an immunosuppressant at the time that really slowed down any sort of healing. I had exposed bone for months after.
Dear God I was so scared of dry socket after my wisdom teeth surgery... I'm shocked I didn't get it because I went back to very carefully vaping only a day later.
Well, my surgeon's office was 2 hrs away and I had already driven there to pick up my prescription that day after waking up in agony.
I wasn't going to drive that far again in pain so I just looked for something around the house that would protect the socket from anything touching it and lighting the nerve on fire.
It worked well enough that I didn't bother calling him back.

Dry sockets in my mouth. 98 to 105 degrees. Every couple of hours, back and forth for 10 days.
