I got the flu in the early 2000s. I thought I was going to die. I just laid in bed and fell asleep from pure exhaustion. My sister made me some soup and I didn’t have energy to even drink it. I just woke up one day and got a little stronger but it took probably 3 weeks of surviving before I could eat and drink normally.

Had it in the late 90s, I was a healthy late 20s and same, I thought I would die. Was out of work for 2 weeks, my roommate moved out so she wouldn't get it, it was awful. I think i had a fever of 103 for at least a week.

Get your flu shots, not just for you but to also protect your elderly or infant loved ones. That bout of flu seared into my brain that people can and will die from the flu but even if they don't, it is a horrible horrible illness. Not one to mess with, it was that scary.

I got the flu in the winter of 2012/13. I had a baby at the time, we moved to another state when I was 6 months pregnant so we lived far from family and friends, my husband was in Hawaii for work. I remember barely being able to function. Basically laying on the floor all day trying to conserve my energy and not to get the baby sick. Anyways husband gets back from his trip to find me on the floor of the nursery asleep, baby in the crib. He picked me up, put me in bed and it seemed like my body finally gave in and I couldn't function anymore. I was barely holding on and subconsciously I figred he was home I could finally not fight the illness. He took care of the baby got me medicine and soup and next day my fever broke. I just remember having body aches and being cold and hot. Luckily baby didn't get sick.

Literally same, I was on my deathbed from the flu unknowingly. I really thought I could tough it out. If it wasnt for my mom dragging me to the doctors I wouldve been a goner, I didnt realize how bad of a state I was in 😭

One honest bout of a flu where I hadn't yet gotten my vaccination was enough to make me pretty diligent about getting my flu shots as early as possible from then on.

"They don't do anything, I get sick anyway!" Yeah, but you get sick for one fucking day and largely just felt a little bad. Like reading a twitter comment about a book's narrative and acting like you fucking wrote the book yourself.
