I once got food poisoning so bad I felt like I was coming down with heroin withdrawal. I was getting delirious, I had to puke regularly even if there was nothing there, I was in cold sweat, my vision was blurry, my hands felt like they were too big, and my head felt like it was being squeezed by a helmet 5 sizes too small. And I was driving to get to the ferry in Sweden cuz missing it was not an option.
People who have never really had food poisoning have no idea how bad it can be. They go to a restaurant and have an upset stomach the next day and claim they had food poisoning but that is nothing compared to the real thing.
I forgot that my ass also decided it was now a fountain and would just spray water out of it until I was completely dehydrated. I was srsly worried about dying from dehydration it was so bad, I couldn't keep any liquid in - I would puke, sweat or shoot it out my ass in a matter of minutes.
I got noro from my school aged kid. He puked like twice. I puked for a full 22 hours straight, no breaks, none of the few minutes right after where you get relief. My body was trying to puke again before the one before was finished. The sheer volume was unbelievable. Like, I've been sick before where my stomach was empty and I was throwing up bile, but this one was just gallons of projectile liquid as if it was pulling water out of my cells. I considered calling a doctor or a priest, but I was honestly too sick to hold a phone. I'm amazed at your perseverance, and you have my admiration for making it!
i got noro during the massive outbreak in 2024. like on christmas day. my partner actually had symptoms first, but she got over it in a few days. i know we got it from my job, i worked with kids at the time, and it was spread like wildfire throughout our clinic. all my coworkers had it, so many kids were out because of it. the line for the bathroom was insane. it truly was hell.
i would be sitting on the toilet with the trash can, because i would be having liquid come out both ends at the SAME TIME. i have never in my LIFE felt like that, and it was the worst physical experience i’ve ever had.
it’s like my insides were screaming at me (like you could literally HEAR how active my stomach was). i was so sore, dehydrated, delirious, and i actually did have a food ruined for me because of it. the night before i started showing symptoms, we had this trader joe’s gnocchi pasta that i was obsessed with. it never even digested for me. i can’t even eat it anymore. just thinking about it makes me queasy lol. it was so sad.
Almost exactly like you. I worked in a nursery school with three year olds. Me and another teaching assistant got very ill one day and both had to leave early. I made it home but not in the house before throwing up. Like you said, it was spewing from both ends for over 24 hours. I couldn’t keep ice chips down.
I lost five pounds in a day and a half. It was hell.
My wife got norovirus in her eyes working at an urgent care. Both eyes completely busted like all veins, and were swollen shut for a few days. I of course eventually got it and had one strained vessel in my eye that never burst. Immune systems are so weird.
I got noro in the summer of 2024, and I agree, it's horrible and so scary. It was almost as bad as when I had covid. With covid I lost 35lbs in 6 weeks from puking so much. I was lucky though, they finally gave me ondansetron (this was when my hospital was only taking covid patients with respiratory difficulties, which I didn't have, but I finally went to the ER and my veins were so flat they barely got the IV in) and I lived on that for a good few weeks until my initial covid symptoms relaxed. I got long covid and was moderately sick for 2 years but the initial sickness was HELL. Noro was really bad but I was only puking sick for two weeks that time. I went to the ER and they had me come in twice a day for a week to give me fluids and sent me home with zofran? or maybe ondansetron, for the between times. I lost 25lbs with noro, it was awful!
Ugghhhh...I got noro then as well. It. Was. AWFUL. Hit me when I was in the middle of shopping at Giant Heirloom store in town. All of a sudden, I was just doubled over -came out of nowhere, I literally felt fine just before. Made a mad dash to the ONE public bathroom they had avail there. What made it SO much worse, was they had this b!tch employee, who kept pounding on the damn door, yelling at me that there was a line for the bathroom, despite the fact that I kept apologizing & hollering back at her that I WAS SICK & there was an employee bathroom right there next to it that they could've let people use in an emergency, which obvi, this was. Ffs...it was TERRIBLE. Not to mention, I had to figure out how tf I was going to make my way home. There aren't public bathrooms here. Nearly all bathrooms for 'public' use are inside businesses, & not all of them allow people to use them-many have even stopped allowing customers to use them b/c they've had issues-only restaurants w/sit down eating are required to have them available. So I'm in this bathroom, dying sick, having the door pounded on repeatedly & getting screamed at, trying to make my brain work & think of everywhere along the route to my bus that had a bathroom...I had to stop so many x at so many places...it took me hours to get home that day. Mind you, that market was only 4 blocks away from my bus..I don't ever want to get that ish again!!!
The same thing happened to me from the same outbreak! Broccoli cheddar soup! Meanwhile, the only thing I was able to eat were those microwave mac & cheeses. Ah, the duality of cheese.
That's when I had Norovirus too! Although mine started just a few days before Christmas in 2024. I haven't had red Powerade zero since and never will again. I wanted to die I was so sick. It took them like two hours, multiple people, and an ultrasound to find my veins because I was so dehydrated. I am terrified of getting it again.
I had noro that Christmas too! Well, Boxing Day but who cares. Coming out of both ends every half hour for six hours straight. Couldn't keep anything down, asked my mom for some toast after being vomit-free for the afternoon and started throwing up again. We were supposed to drive 13-14 hours to the capital with my brother that morning at 6 but waited an extra day since I was actively vomiting. We left early the next morning and I was so delirious I forgot my frigging glasses. The stress on my abdomen was so bad I could barely stand for a week, let alone stand up straight, but at least I got a great six pack from it!
I'm immune to this. The last time I puked was in 2012 due to Grey Goose. I can't remember ever having the shits like that either. I run the other way, which is once a month it seems.
About 2 years ago we all got norovirus it was hell on earth. I thought I was going to die of dysentery it was the sickest I've ever been in my life. It took about a solid week to let up, and it's like I had purged every thing in me and then I was starving by a week had gone by so everything in the house had gone bad.
I worked at a college and was gifted the Noro by a student. I always take a tv tray into the bathroom, put my pillow on it, sit down and sleep between the shitting and vomiting. It’s too much effort to go back to bed. I have always kept a bucket by the commode (IBS) so I’m pretty practiced at it all.
I had noro. I thought maybe I should go to the ER, but as I was crawling to the door I simultaneously barfed and pooped my pants, so I decided to either live or die at home, because there was no way I was making it down the stairs to the parking lot of my apartment complex. My boyfriend (now-husband) was there because he was the one who was going to drive me. It’s a miracle that he didn’t leave me, because my whole apartment smelled like shit and we hadn’t been together all that long.
I've had norovirus twice, and it is unbelievably awful. Both times I ended up sleeping on the floor of my bathroom for multiple days, because I was on the toilet with a garbage can so often there was no point in trying to go back to bed. I was shivering and dripping sweat while puking and having diarrhea all at the same time. It took me months to fully recover- i was so weak and my stomach just couldnt handle food for so long that I ended up losing between 15-20lbs. Norovirus is no joke!!
The absolute worst feeling is struggling down a couple gulps of an electrolyte solution only to feel it CRASH through your raw & abused, scraped clean inside tubes and squirt out the other end within 15 minutes. That’s when I knew I had to go get an IV at least. Food poisoning on one of the most inconvenient weeks of my life.
this happened to me and i thought i was dying. i dead ass thought i was going to die. my stomach hurt so bad i thought i was the next episode of i didn’t know was pregnant
I had gastro this bad when I was pregnant....had to call my dad at 11pm to bring me to the hospital because I couldn't swallow my own spit without puking it up 30 seconds later. It was fucking miserable.
I got a stomach virus while I was breastfeeding, couldn't keep anything down and the baby only wanted me and milkies. Trying to drink enough to both keep myself hydrated and feed the baby was so hard, I almost had to go in for an IV I could tell it wasn't good, but then the puking stopped thank goodness.
I just commented about this as well. It happened to me as a kid. I basically didn't eat or drink for four days and ended up going to the ER to get an IV.
I can prove it, but I got sick after having chocolate chip pancakes from a local restaurant. I still can't eat chocolate chip pancakes.
My father infected us all with a stomach bug that he brought from his work Christmas party.
He was sick on the couch but ate so nothing too bad. I was the sickest I've ever been in my life. Spraying shit like water out of my ass while hold my bucket, puking and dry heavy for days.
Then my sister insisted I attended her kids 1st birthday party otherwise she would cancel everything and all the people who were invited would be sad. I didn't want to. People screamed at me to stay away from them, not at my dad. I was better but would have preferred to stay at home.
Years ago a group of friends met at a wings place. I don't do spicy food so me and one other, a child of one of my friends (about 5 at the time), had mild wings and everyone else ate spicy ones.
It began that night both ends sometimes at the same time, and all through the night, the next day and evening. At one point I slept (passed out) on the floor next to the toilet. I was very sick. The child was hospitalized for 3 days and there was a few hours of heavy heavy concern.
I was reading on another subreddit about people complaining that food safety norms are too strict and that some people on Reddit are too obsessed with these norms and that there is some margin around these norms etc etc...
But when I read stories like yours, I'm like..... Noooooope. I'm gonna follow all the food safety rules very strictly!
Kept getting nauseous and having the runs after eating wings at a certain place. Took a bit to pin it was them (like 3 tries) because it didn’t happen until the next day. I stopped eating there. Couple weeks later the health inspector rolls thru town and checks everyone.
They failed on a question. They were par boiling the wings (that’s fine) and then leaving them out in a pan near the fryer.
I got mine from a turkey sausage and cheese sandwich from Dunkin Donuts. I've had it since.... just not from Dunkin. It also didn't onset for me until a day or two later, it has to be pretty fucking brutal for it to onset same day.
Oh 100% this was me. Never had real food poisoning until was out of town and got soft-serve at a gas station and spent the next 3 days in a hotel room cradled up in the fetal position. So much discomfort, cold sweats, dehydration, headaches, stomach cramping and twisting, genuinely thought I had a perf'd bowel at one point. 0/10 would never do again.
got food poisoning from a pizza joint once. we all sat down and were eating. someone asked what the construction was next door. sewage pipe burst. they were still open and serving pizza. i stopped eating but it was already too late. i had liquid coming out both ends for three days. i should have gone to the ER. i couldn’t move from bed and my bf at the time had to help me drink gatorade while writhing in bed. i filled our entire kitchen sink with vomit at one point. i legit have serious food aversions and straight up PTSD from it. cooking for me is a nightmare because i will use so many utensils and wash my hands raw as to not cross contaminate anything.
A few years ago,I ordered something from a fast food joint. Pasta with chicken, broccoli and hollandaise sauce. Well,I guess the salmonella were from the sauce..got really bad stomach cramps, sweating, and what came out of me was turquoise.
Throwing up brocoli is like throwing up bugs. I had a bug or food poisoning (the only time I’ve slept in my bathroom) and I just remember millions of individual brocoli pieces looking like fruit flies.
If it helps, you can wear gloves and wash the gloves! Not kitchen gloves, but like surgery gloves. Saves your hands and you don't have to buy so many gloves. Perhaps cleaner too, since there's no nooks and crannies.
I once had it for a week straight. The only thing I could keep down were these baby banana teething crackers my son had. On day 5 I dragged myself to urgent care and was taken back immediately, no wait or anything. Zofran stat and an entire IV of fluids. Told me if this continued for 2 more days I needed to come back because it was clearly something more serious than just your normal food poisoning (ie ecoli, shigella, etc).
Luckily I turned a corner after that, but holy shit I had PTSD from it for years. Anytime I’d get the runs for a day I thought I was about to relive the hell i went through. Lost 10 lbs in 5 days. Wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.
I would say I had real food poisoning twice. Once from undercooked chicken wings in St Louis and once for some unknown reason in December 2024. The December 2024 one was by far the worst with 48 hours of continuous puking with my stomach feeling like someone was wringing it like a soaked sponge. It's so weird how food poisoning just "end", though, because sometime during the 3rd day, the disaster at the exit decided it was done and after the 30th shit in 3 days, I had one nice little log in the toilet signaling the white flag from that end. Still puked for another 24 hours, though.
I got food poisoning about 10 minutes before boarding a flight from the Middle East to the US. Because I’d never had true food poisoning before, I assumed it was a brief upset tummy issue that would pass, and my dumb ass got on the plane.
Gentle reader, it did not pass. It got much worse. I remember at one point I was so dehydrated I couldn’t hold my head up without help, and I asked the flight attendant about a medical diversion and she kindly informed me we were over the ocean and I was screwed.
I got shot and I would take that experience again over being stuck on a flight under those circumstances.
My 3 year old daughter and I got food poisoning from popcorn shrimp at golden corral. She was afraid to puke in the toilet. Or a trash can. Or a bucket of any kind. So we camped out on the dining room floor while she barfed directly onto the floor. I was so weak I could barely keep my eyes open while attempting to clean up. I must have scooped hundreds of handfuls of puke up. Her butt was raw from blasting through pull ups. I puked into the bathtub while on the toilet. The smells. The pure amount of shit and diarrhea was unfathomable. This went on for 3 days.13 years later, it still haunts me
this is so true, got food poisoning from wendy’s a few years ago and holy shit i’ve never been so sick in my entire life. and i’ve had mono THREE times, so that’s saying something. coming out of both ends every 10 minutes for 10 hours straight in the middle of the night, and then slept for basically two days. lost a good 8 pounds in those three days .
the amount of times i tell someone that story and they go “omg i get food poisoning all the time!” no… no you do not.
I want to preface this to say that I heard about this after the fact (my sister and I were adults with our separate adult lives). My sister got genuinely bad food poisoning. It hit hard and out of nowhere. She was at the movies with her boyfriend when she was starting to feel yucky but soon had to vomit immediately. It just wouldn’t stop and she couldn’t even get to a bathroom. They had to call an ambulance and it was rough. Luckily she got over it pretty fast compared to some. Maybe it hitting so hard made it shorter lived compared to some others.
I chuckle inside every time someone tells me they had food poisoning and turns out it was half a day of diarrhea. I'll never forget the aftermath of eating leftover memorial day hot dogs in September when i was in college 20 years ago. Never been that sick before or since, and I've had kidney stones 3 times. Do not recommend real food poisoning.
I have friends, a couple, who were both stuck in a public toilet after dining out, he in the men's room, she in the women's room, so ill they had to call 911 and be taken to the hospital.
That's how I know I've never had true food poisoning.
Not only was it the worst 48 hours of my life, I developed an ulcer that messed up my digestion for a year afterwards. I still can't eat nacho fries fromshadypubswithunwashedgreenonions
I got it from a sushi place one time, I was living in my car at the time. I started puking up black chunks that looked like coffee in the middle of the night and tasted rotten fish. I was sick as a dog barely able to do really anything for like 3 days
Yup. Had it so bad once it went on for 3 days. Absolute hell. I just lay be the toilet for the first 24 hrs with regular bouts of violent vomiting. Second day I made it to the bed with slightly less urgent runs to the bathroom. And day 3 I felt like I was severely hungover. Couldn't eat anything til day 5. And that was from a Disney cruise.
Yeah for sure, Ive only had true food poisoning once with some bad burger king chicken. Three days of utter hell, Can't eat anything. Even water was a stretch at some points. Wake up from a nap, roll over, and explosively shit yourself immediately.
I distinctly remember towards the end of it I had a physical therapy appointment for my hand in a unrelated matter. Drove to the Drs office, Got about 3 steps outside my car before I vomited on myself and had to clean it up with a damn beanie before I went in
My parents used to get it pretty bad from fast food places when I was a kid, but I didn’t know how awful that really was for them until an evil boss purposely gave me tainted food the day before my last day of work (I had put in my two weeks already and the boss was major pissed about that). I threw everything up like clockwork overnight and into the next morning, with the better amount of that time there being nothing left to come up. Ribs were in shambles for days afterwards (among other things).
I can’t imagine having it from the front and back - THAT sounds like an absolute effing nightmare….
After a pretty good corporate party where I overindulged in alcohol and free food, I woke up with what I thought was a raging hangover. But then it just kept getting worse and sharper, and after hours of not even being able to keep water in my stomach, eventually realized that it was food poisoning.
I probably should have gone to the hospital but knocking myself out with niquil and laying down for 24 hours eventually worked. I don't think I felt "right" until at least three days later though.
AFAIK that is also food poisoning, but more mild. I had the severe kind twice. Once it was coming out of both ends until there was nothing left to come out but still somehow kept coming... Second time I was only sick for a little bit, only three up once and didn't have diarrhea. Buti couldn't eat for about 5 days and felt tricky the whole time. I only threw up once, but if I tried to eat I'd feel sick.
Got food poisoning from sushi earlier this year. Felt fine until I just… didn’t. Fell onto the floor beside the couch and felt so sick I was totally unable to move, so all I could do was turn my head and throw up onto the floor next to me over and over again. Had vomit in my hair and all down my side and in my sick delirium felt too guilty(???????) to wake up my partner who was already sound asleep in bed so I forced myself to clean up what felt like gallons of puke in between still puking, just into a bag I’d gotten, hauled myself into the shower and kept puking until I had no more anything in me, then wrapped myself in a towel and went to bed sweating and shaking. Definitely not the sickest I’ve ever been, but yeah: you don’t know food poisoning until it’s way too late.
Truly, I had it from gas station sushi (yeah, 100% my fault). I was hospitalized twice, and I spread it to three people who also ended up in hospital by shitting and puking and them inhaling the airborne particles, genuinely some of the worst pain I’ve ever experienced lol
I had a one day version of it only a few days after I left hospital and had to call an ambulance because my blood pressure tanked wayyy too low so passing out and all the V&D had also left me extremely dehydrated. They fixed me up though so huge credit to them. My longest one was 17days but that was still easier than the one I just had because of how sick I still was coming out of hospital like my oxygen saturation was still below 90% when sitting up and its hard enough catching your breath between long vomits and that made it so much worse. I was on the toilet shitting, while puking into a bucket when the ambulance crew came in so they got an idea of what was happening. They thankfully got me sorted out so I could stay at home because I didn't want to go back to hospital. lots of fluids and meds. But yeah that was just over a couple weeks ago while recovering from RSD and Pneumonia.
He's still being dumb about food. Will buy grilled chicken thighs and leave it on the kitchen counter for 10 hours before eating it.
He hasn't gotten sick from that yet, but his reason for doing it is just so dumb. If he puts it in the fridge then it will become too cold. He heats it up in the microwave! Just put it in a bit longer! (And put it in the oven or even just in the skillet to heat it up instead of in the microwave, but that's a different conversation)
I had food poisoning like that on Christmas Day once (and for four days thereafter). Nothing like puking and shitting at the same time to humble the absolute fuck out of you.
my sister & I shared a very small one bath studio apartment in Chinatown nyc several years ago & came down with norovirus within less than 10 hours of each other.
for us it was not only humbling but a test of mental fortitude (& assclenching) that still sometimes haunts me to this day.
Right there with you. I was in Hiroshima in January and had it bad, but was able to reschedule some shit and be sick in my hotel room. I couldn’t believe how much my body hurt, especially my knees. I also got it at the tail end of my trip to Venice a few years back. I didn’t think I was gonna make it to the airport to return home! Thankfully my flight was super late and I managed to get on/not vomit between Venice and home, but that monumental effort took it out of me. I couldn’t go to work for 2 days after that 😂
Oh horrible. My daughter (from US) was a foreign exchange student for a year in Europe and they got to do a Euro tour through Italy. She was also sick with food poisoning from Florence to Rome I think. By the time she made it to Venice she was better. All I know was she said she was sick but “I’m ok” which is code for “I may be dying…”
I couldn’t reach her or the rotary people due to phone service but did find out the whole travail eventually. She had to ride on a bus puking her guts out for hours and a couple of the Belgian rotary ladies let her stay back from the tours and nursed her. She was so sick. She sent me about 15 videos detailing the gruesome reality of it. When she made the videos she was recovering and they are some of the funniest videos I’ve ever seen. Comedy of the body but with someone willing to laugh at themselves. She said the bond she made with the rotary exchange lady was worth the pain. I can’t imagine hours of puking and shitting while on a bumpy bus with your peers. And she tried to walk with the group through the cities but was too weak and cold and kept having to stop. I was so scared not hearing from her for hours, picturing her in some hospital with no one to comfort her. Luckily her (FANTASTIC) host mom from Belgium talked me down and reached someone from the group in Italy. I can’t imagine how hellish this must have been.
Yeah, my singular bout of food poisoning is the worst experience of my life. And I was at least in my own house. Can’t imagine going through that while traveling. I called my mom at 3 am (she lived 3 hours away) because I didn’t know what to do.
I listed a sulfa reaction as my sickest but food poisoning in Vegas was pretty awful too. DO NOT eat any real food at that convention center. Trust. I couldn’t leave my room long enough to even get to the vending machine on the same floor so I could drink fluids before throwing them up again. Likely should have gone to the hospital.
I got food poisoning twice. Once while on a trip to Europe. Ruined the whole experience for me and I was very sick for two weeks. Another time, I ate what I believe was a bad hot dog and I was away from work for two weeks with that as well. When it happens, it's no joke.
I feel you. I put ice cubes in my drink in Mexico at a bar and ohhhhhh myyyyyy goddddddd...... Food poisoning on a plane is the WORST situation you could land on with that.
Yes also food poisoning, by and far. And I’ve seen some shit.
It was after (of course) a seafood dinner while visiting my best girlfriend and her partner. They did not get sick. They did however have the foresight to rent a 2 bed 2 bath because that 2nd bath became my property for three additional days. I took the train there and at one point started crawling to the door, saying “I think I can make it to the train” and my bff dragged me back to the bathroom by my shirt collar like a dog. Restarted the both ends treatment almost immediately. I do not remember this.
The sweats, skin crawling, I could feel whatever I drank take a completely clean run straight to my asshole in under 5. Everything made me nauseous: thinking of food, focusing my eyes to read/watch tv/look at my phone, closing my eyes, blinking, textures, patterns, sounds, talking, moving, hot, cold, room temperature.
I still think about it regularly, and I do wish it on my worst enemy.
Same here! I was home for the holidays one year when me, my husband and dad were sick from bad spinach. We were so bad off that my mom was a day away from taking us all to the hospital because we couldn’t even drink water. Of all the things I’ve eaten in my life I never expected spinach to be the cold-hearted bastard it was
I got like E Coli food poisoning once from an Italian restaurant
and thought I could just sleep it off. Yeah, no. It got so bad I started shitting/pissing like red red blood while also throwing up constantly lol.
I had to have my friend drive me to a Gastro doctors office I did IT for, then it took like a week to get better. It was a crazy 10 days
When I was a teenager my family and I were visiting the states to see family. Denny’s on the 405 gave me the worst food poisoning I’ve ever experienced in my life. My parents still dragged me to universal studios. I was so unbearably sick that day. The only thing i remember is throwing up in the Harry Potter toilets with moaning Myrtle laughing at me over the speaker.
I've had food poisoning so bad before that I ended up laying down in a cold shower while my butthole unleashed lava and I cried. Why the cold shower? I was on the brink of passing out from my blood pressure plummeting. Cleaning up the shower after the fact was one of my most humbling moments. I survived but at what cost?
I recently had food poisoning for the first time in my life from bad kale, and boy was it rough. I used to think it was just an “upset stomach” after eating something questionable. Nope. It was 6 hours of puking every 10-15 minutes with no relief. At one point there was nothing left but stomach acid. Then it was just dry heaving and gagging. I was throwing up so violently that my chest was black and blue from heaving against the toilet bowl, and my throat felt like it ripped apart. Luckily I didn’t get the “both ends experience” (it was close), but I am now so terrified of eating anything that looks remotely like it’s going bad, including leftovers.
I am now one of those people that goes “oh no” when someone calls out of work with food poisoning. It’s seriously no joke.
Omg when I was pregnant, like very pregnant, beginning of 3rd trimester, end of 2nd, I got food poisoning from Bojangles I had the day before, and it hit me while I was at work talking to my new manager 😭😭 He was going on and on, and I started feeling dizzy, ringing in my ears. Then he was in a tunnel talking in muffled slow motion. LMAOO I sat down and put my head down, and I just remember barely making it to the bathroom where I had the trash can in front of me while on the toilet. The rest of that day was insane as well, but my son was perfect, kept kicking me the whole time🤩🤩 Loved it.
Same. After a big family Christmas gathering, 18 of the 24 people there got food poisoning. It was the sickest I've ever been. I can remember just thinking "People die from this sometimes, right?' as I'm lying on the bathroom floor at 3:00am in cold sweat after vomiting who knows how many times.
Thankfully, everyone recovered. I was a little concerned with the people in the family who had pre-existing health problems, but they all got better. We never did figure out what it was by identifying the food the 6 people who didn't get sick didn't eat.
I got it so bad once I fell unconscious in the bathroom. When I was coming to but still out, for some reason I started headbutting the floor. Once I gained lucidity and realized why the hell am I doing that, I had about 5 seconds, crawled over to the toilet and puked my guts out. Felt fine after that.
Moral of the story: you see some really old meat in the freezer, you shouldn't think "Eh I'll cook it and it'll be ok"
I got food poisoning on my vacation in Portugal this year. I genuinely didn’t know how I was going to even make it into a car to get to the airport. I didn’t leave the bathroom for 2 full days.
I had horrible food poisoning, I think from a hotdog I got at a fundraiser walk. I was peeing out of my butt and puking while using the toilet. It was so bad. Then the next day I ended up getting a 104 degree fever, but my mom assured me I was being dramatic. I was out of school for half the week, then not actually back to normal for probably two weeks. On that day I had Ben and Jerry’s Phish Food ice cream and I will never eat it again. I don’t think it was the ice cream, but just a negative association at this point.
I had the worst food poisoning earlier this year. It was coming out of both ends, worst gastric distress and pain. Then, to top it all off, my hernia repair popped open. The pain was unimaginable. I went to the ER because I thought it was my appendix had burst. It wasn't my appendix but still resulted in emergency surgery.
Food poisoning is the worst. When I had it I was vomiting til there was nothing left and even then some, and started hallucinating that I was in a game that I was into at the time and to get better I had to escape. 0 sleep all pain all night.
I had the same from food poisoning! I thought for sure that was how i was going to die. I don’t even remember what the food was. Luckily, i was home but unluckily i live alone. I couldn’t get out of bed to expel stuff. The hallucinations were wild.
This happened to me too. I ate sushi at the Sydney airport right before boarding a 14 hour flight to Los Angeles. I spent about 10 of those hours violently puking. At one point I even passed out and came to in the tiny plane bathroom. I legit thought I was going to die or that I’d need an ambulance once we touched down in LA. It was soooo bad I’m genuinely traumatized from it.
You poor darling... BUTT why would you even risk eating that shit before a flight ex AUS. I did SYD AKL with food poisoning with a 6 hour layover before Fiji. Hell on earth. I have a zero food policy now before any international flight for at least 12 hours. Once on the flight sure, rare does airline food make you sick. OMG the memory even now makes me queasy.
Chipotle gave me food poisoning. I was....fucked for 2 days. If I wasn't in the bathroom, I was sitting on the floor against the wall outside it for a change of scenery.
This. Couldn't hold anything down and was trying to move houses. Had to sip on straight chicken broth VERY SLOW to keep it down. I had zero energy and would just pack a box of stuff, drive it to the house, and drop it. Then drive back home and sleep or throw up some more. Absolutely miserable, and it lasted like 5 days.
Not food poisoning but for the past 3 days I’ve been sick, throwing up and not being able to eat anything. The nausea is horrible and it’s also caused me to lose sleep, sleep all day or sleep on and off all day. This is the worst thing I’ve ever gone through. Right now I’m surviving off ginger ale, water and Gatorade
I’ve had food poisoning before, but nothing even remotely close to that I can’t imagine trying to drive through all those symptoms just to catch a ferry. The blurry vision alone would’ve had me pulling over immediately.
This is what happens if I take hydrocodone. My opioid receptors aren't receptive. Someone slipped me a suboxone once, told me it was an upper. I was in bed for 3 days with vomit in my hair. I miss Darvon/Darvocet. It was the only pain reliever that worked.
