Looking For Suggestions What android phone should I buy if I want the premium feel of Apple but without Apple?

The reason I stick with Apple is its premium feel. The latest from Samsung or Poco are far superior in performance and the stuff it offers; but android looks have always felt a bit scattered compared to the cleanliness and orderly ways of Apple’s iOS. Don’t get me wrong, I hate how inefficient Apple can be. I’m not going to ignore that, nor the various bugs Apple just ignores, bugs on my keyboard that have been around for years.

I’d love the Poco F9 or the latest Samsung that can do all sorts of things….

But it’s the look of Apple, the way the apps look, the way the iCloud works, and just how it feels.

Recently I sold my asus rog for a MacBook Pro M1, and instantly it felt more premium.

I’m looking for a powerful phone outside of Apple, with the amazing performance of the poco F9 or the cool features of the latest Samsung, but with the os that is as clean and premium feeling of Apple.

Is there an android os like Apple that can be installed on the poco F9?

App Specific Question How to disable Gemini in Android Auto while still using voice commands

I have a 2023 Kia Rio and got an email that Google Assistant will be disabled tomorrow in favor of Gemini. I hate AI and I have heard only bad things about it for Android Auto. But I enjoy using voice commands to listen to/reply to texts and maps and such. How can I do this?

A brokie seeking guidance on folding phones

let me start this off by stating I'm broke. which one should I get to last me at least the next 2 years as my one and only phone for work and life? the google pixel 9 pro fold, or the samsung galaxy Z fold3 5g for about half the price of the other?

ps: additionally I'm getting increasingly tired of samsung's oneUI shenanigans.

Device Settings Question OneUI 9 - Hide notification contents when unlocked

On previous OneUI versions I could have popups for apps and the notification on the drag down menu display, but hide the content of that message. For example, my one time authentication message recieved via text would display I have a new text, but not display the content of that text and therefore the authentication code.

I cant seem to turn this off now in 9?

Call volume VERY high

About a week ago the call volume on my Android shot up out of nowhere and the minimum volume is V-E-R-Y loud. I am not aware of any setting that will lower the call volume even further and I can’t seem to find a 3rd party app that achieves that end. This, as far as I can remember, didn’t coincide with any software update. Restarting my phone didn't do anything. What to do?

Looking For Suggestions Getting new phone - HELP!

So basically, I currently have a Google Pixel 9, base model, and my phone has started to have issues with its charging port not fully connecting, but besides that, between me and my family, I'm the next person due for a new phone because of our plan or whatever, and so I'm trying to figure out what I should get.

I have about the same budget as my current phone to search for, so around $450, I can probably negotiate more or less or pitch in to get it.

Here are the my personal main requirements:

-Storage: 256gb storage (or more, currently at 128 and somehow is always full, I have all photos and videos on a 2TB Google cloud storage my family has, so it's not that, but having the next bump up should be great)

-Camera quality: I'm not sure why, but I feel like my friend with a Motorola Edge Plus 2023 has a better camera than my phone by far, as far as color goes, maybe image quality too, so something like that if that is possible

-Processor power: about the same as Google pixel 9, less or more, I don't mind too much, but if possible to not have it AI focused like my current chip, the Google Tensor 4 chip, then I think I could get a lot better one

-Outer shell/chassis: don't really care, but if it has unique features that would be cool

-Ram: I don't think I care too much about the ram, but like at least 8gb, 12gb would be better if course

Overall my top 2 that I currently am liking:

-Samsung S23 Ultra: 256gb storage, 8gb ram, really good camera, better processor overall excluding AI, which my current chip excels at but don't need

-Nothing 4a: I was looking into Nothing before my current phone, but the 4a with 256gb comes in at ~$550, so I would need to help in the purchase. However, it has 12gb ram, has the cool 'matrix' lights on the back for notifications, better screen and refresh rate, although the processor is slightly worse than mine and worse than the S23 Ultra.

If anybody else has recommendations, I will be open to anything within that price range. The main thing is having the 256gb storage, and a somewhat good processor with a relatively good camera.

Other Why can't I use the old methods of changing the time to delete my chats anymore in 2026? It used to work until 2025, didn't it?

I used to help my grandma delete her wrongly sent messages when I visited her. Sometimes it was my cousins' certificates sent to the wrong group chats or something similar. You know what I mean, they’re private files that shouldn't be seen by the public. I used to delete those wrongly sent files from 2018 to 2025 by using these old tricks that never fail:

- Turn on Airplane Mode on your phone immediately to cut off internet and Wi-Fi.

- Go to your phone's Settings and find Date & Time.

- Turn off Set Automatically and manually change the clock back to the exact date and time the old message was originally sent.

- Force-close and reopen WhatsApp, then go to the specific chat.

- Tap and hold the old message, select Delete, and tap Delete for Everyone.

- Turn off Airplane Mode and restore your correct phone settings.

There's even a YouTube video explaining the methods needed for this: https://youtu.be/FtQQDturAfM?si=D9I18Kw6gvJ8Qd9j

So today, here's the problem. My grandma made the same mistake again, and I can't even delete the file anymore because this time, in 2026, WhatsApp automatically tells the account that the date and time are not correct and stops working. This prevents me from deleting the file from a month ago when I wasn't there to unsend it immediately.

My grandma definitely knew how to unsend a file because I taught her how to do it, but she thought the month before that she wanted to send the files. However, she recently changed her mind, so I couldn't help her like the usual times when I come to visit.

Any help or explanation is very much appreciated.

Dear Grandma, if you read this, I didn't write it to make fun of you or anything. I just wanted to find some help from the internet. I love you so much, Grandma. I wish you a long, blessed, and happy life. Amen.

Google play services is pinging my location every couple of minutes and eating my battery.

Samsung S24. Since installing the most recent update yesterday, Google play services has been pinging my location constantly. I searched and this seems to have been an issue a few years ago, but none of the fixes worked for me so far.

Most notable I turned off Google location sharing and location accuracy, but that was not the issue.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an S24. I just updated to the most recent patch yesterday. I have it set to show when apps access location by displaying the icon in the status bar. Since updating the location icon shows that it is being pinging constantly, almost every minute by something in the system. No apps are reporting access since yesterday. How do I make it stop?

Looking For Suggestions Activating SOS in my Pocket

Does anyone have any kind of guidance to avoid this? How can I make android aware of the need to have options? All of the info I can find about this is outdated. I have buttdialed emergency services at least 4 times in the past month and am at my wits end trying to figure out a solution. I walk around a lot at work. I walk briskly and somehow evidently am tapping the lock button 5 times in a row. Old solutions are not solving this. This is all on an S21.

We can no longer disable emergency SOS. I would prefer I could do this. Swipe to confirm does not seem to work. I have set my emergency contact to my own phone number, and while it no longer seems to dial 911, it still seems to place a call to my local police department. I do not want to waste their time anymore. A new phone might solve the issue, but I don't know if this is going to be an issue with any android device I might get. Maybe a case with more resistance on the button would be good?

Looking For Suggestions Is there any App which Backups a List of installed apps weekly or with New installs?

For my whole life I've used the play store function for Backup and Restore, but now I've started using Fdroid and GitHub for Open source apps.

There are some obscure apps I've been using and now I'm afraid that if I lose my phone or it breaks down I won't be able to find them again.

So I am looking for any app that can create a list of my installed apps and back them up to my GDrive weekly.

If anyone's got some suggestions I would appreciate it.

Thanks.

App Specific Question Android fps drop, discord

So when I use my discord app on Android today I experienced fps/frame drops whenever I scroll through my server list or through the channel list on a server. I don't experience this on my other apps and I already tried clearing cache, restarting my phone, and switcing internet to no avail. Anyone else had experienced this?
