Wins
vs Sydney
@ Port Adelaide
vs West Coast
vs Western Bulldogs
vs Adelaide

Losses
@GWS
@Melbourne
@Carlton
vs Hawthorn

Home Record: 4-1
Away Record: 1-3
Record vs Top 10: 3-3
Record vs Bottom 8: 2-1

3 wins in the last 9 games against top sides with none coming away from home.

They can still turn it around, but straight sets would be a disaster for this Freo squad whose premiership it was to lose.

Actual sliding doors moments for your club

95 Upvotes

Given the absolutely horrendous understanding of sliding doors that somehow gets published every Friday, I thought it would be interesting to go through some actual sliding doors moments for our clubs. I’ll go first:
IF one of Tom Lynch’s behinds goes through for a goal in Round 1,
THEN Carlton lose, Vossy is sacked over the Round 2 bye, Carlton don’t lose to Melbourne, North, Collingwood & St Kilda and finish top four.

Intimidation as a Skill

31 Upvotes

Late 40s lifetime AFL fan here, with a question about Wayne Carey that I've always wanted to ask.

I remember seeing him play a game against the Crows at Footy Park. A cold and wet night, somewhere in the late 90s.

One thing I noticed he did was to shape as if he was gonna hit someone with a stray elbow, but then he would make sure to miss by a couple of centimetres. He was never in danger of being reported, but it sure as shit looked scary from the stands.

This post is not here to have a go at Carey. My question is more about his use of intimidation. Was that just him (and just that night)? Or was it a deliberate skill that other players of that era would have also used?

I don't recall seeing other players doing it in quite the same way, but you had to be there live to see it because it often happened off the ball. It felt pre-meditated, like some part of his skill was the way he used intimidation to impose himself on the game.
