We further west don't feel particularly destabilized by Ukrainian refugees tbh. It might be plain racism but I've rarely heard about issues (since most people blend in visually very easily).

Your challenging political parties (at least in Germany, France, and obviously the US) use it for propaganda. Not to mention what's happening in Poland atm. And I'm sure it will get worse if another ~4mm people cross the border because Kyiv and Lviv end up being unlivable for families. They already emptied out half of Kharkiv; they could try the same in those places and it seems like they are already in Kyiv.

It's not so much visually as culturally. They share many of the same cultural values as many Western countries and are able to assimilate without much friction, assuming they speak the language. The same is not true for many other countries' refugees.

maybe further west you don’t but in Poland there’s sadly A LOT of anti-Ukrainian sentiments currently, and two plainly anti-Ukrainian (and consequently, pro-Russian) political parties have been on the steady rise for the past few years. together they could probably score between 20-30% seats in the parliament when next election comes. that’s terrifyingly much considering the pro-Kremlin bullsh*t they spew

Appreciate the honesty, I recall at the start the Ukrainians saying that they were different to normal refugees as they were white and blue eyed which didn’t sit well with me tbh.

The fuck is this? Very few Ukrainians have blue eyes. I'd wager what brought them there has more of a difference in perception of treatment. They were invaded by a dictator controlling one of the most powerful militaries on the planet who is actively threatening half of Europe; most immigrants to Europe are fleeing civil wars.

You guys both are right Ukrainians get sympathy because of who they’re fighting (also them often going to other countries in Europe there’s shared cultural elements) But also it is 100% true that immigrants fleeing from the same/similar/worse conditions but aren’t from Europe are pretty disliked. Basically the Family color chart meme.
