I was about to ask this as well. I've purchased things that go to fund Ukrainian efforts, but short of hopping in a plane to Ukraine and putting my boots on the ground, I'd like to know what else is expected of me. And then I'll tell you how realistic it is when the US is already dealing with multiple crises.

Also - being a vocal advocate for Ukrainian sovereignty does not to a whole lot in practice, but I submit in good faith that it is not nothing.

If you are interested, I have an American friend that is serving in Ukraine as a medic. I was matched with him through PAV so it is all legit.

I donate to him and his team every month and just sent them a huge care package.

Let me know if you want info!

I would love to do more to help but I'm so short on £'s. How much do the care packages cost? What sorts of things are needed?

They would appreciate anything really!

Snacks, hygiene products, a card saying thank you.

A lot of them on his team feel like the world has moved on so support means a lot to them.

Given what's at stake, sending a care package is perfectly reasonable and I would encourage others to do the same. I definitely prefer to do stuff like that through a website, though, if that's available.

You, you do realize that a lot Americans, myself included, support Ukraine? There's the fact that we are currently living in this nightmare of a fever dream in which our once great nation is being run by an 80 year old man child who is, in my opinion, actively try to kill us by taking away food assistance, health coverage, vaccine mandates, and he's trying to deregulate things so that the food we consume doesn't have to be inspected. Because of these things, and so much fucking more, not only does the rest of the world hate us, everything is worse for us here. Groceries are obscenely expensive. There's kids getting measles. A company paid a sizable amount of money to his administration to get around some health inspection resulting in bad lettuce getting eaten all over the country which made a lot of people sick with a disease resembling dysentery. At least one person died from it, though there's probably more. The list goes on. He doesn't give a fuck about anyone that lives here unless they're a billionaire and in my opinion, doesn't really care about them either, just the money and influence they have. Us citizens do not have any say in what he does. In fact, I'm certain that he sees people as things. I'd move out of this place were I able.

Tsk tsk tsk. We Americans are the Great Evil, and are not allowed to point out conditions in our own country, even if we don't support or agree with the things that our government does.

All we get to do is take our scoldings from the world stage and our lashings from the feds, with the same subservient lowered head.

He’s said it on a few occasions about how much he doesn’t care about Americans. It’s like a whole bunch of people forget the shit he says or they think it’s just the way he is. But i mean how many times does he have to say that he doesn’t care about Americans for Americans to believe it. They are going to be pissed if the 22% gets taken off of their social security checks. They have gutted everything!!! Now social security is on the chopping block right now. The shit we’ve been paying into forever. Every single person who has worked and had social security taken out of their checks should be outraged but they are not. I don’t get it.

u/unlordtempest 10h ago

The idiots say they like him because he says that kind of shit. They enjoy how it pisses off the people they don't like. Even if what is being negatively said is about them, they don't care as long as they can, as the say, own the Dems.

u/Bonerstein 9h ago

I am aware that they still want to own the libs. It’s just ridiculous that we are experiencing and hearing the same things and drawing completely different conclusions. We have a president who has said he doesn’t care about his people that voted for him and they think that is cool. That is mind boggling. I guess we will see more videos of people crying about how their vote has affected them if/ when social security gets knocked down 22%. I’m pissed I’ve been working since I was 14, I’m 47 now. I want all of the social security I have paid when I get to the point of retirement. You would think that other people would feel the same way but I guess not.

I honestly think the world will be all Max Max by the time we're old enough for social security. If not the world, at least the US. We all will have measels or mumps/polio/rubella. Or die from eating food that hasn't been inspected. Also since the data centers will be using up all the water, we will be in the middle of the Water Wars. Or AI will kill us all before any of that is happens. The takeaway here is I already dint expect to get anything out of SS.

1

u/Bonerstein 2h ago

You are right u/unlordtempest I’m not going to see social security . It’s supposed to be tapped in five years. I already live in a water crisis city that is breaking ground on a huge data center in a few months. I wonder what it will be like trying to get to work during the Mad Max food borne illness water wars. I need to start saving scrap metal and learn how to weld.

Excellent point!

u/unlordtempest 11h ago

Also, it's of the current president's making. None of us here want this. He put himself on a coin that is going to be fucking circulated for god's sake. The first living president who's likeness is on actual money and it's THIS buffoon. All the horrible shit he's done/will do is bad enough. Now this. He must have a team of assholes that do nothing but hold meetings and be talking about, "Heh, heh, heh! How can we really fuck up everyone's shit today? Heh, heh, heh!"

"Putting my boots on the ground" in another country's military is a constitutional crime in my country, Turkey. AFAIK it also is in Germany, and I assume many other countries.

So would I be a borderline traitor for Ukraine? No. I'd prefer not abandoning my country that I took an oath to defend.

Especially when the middle east is mixing shit in a kettle.
