There was a russian leftist who actually talked about what the brain washing that goes on in Russia is like.

It's not this grand "WE ARE THE BEST AND EVERYONE SUCKS, GLORY TO PUTIN! GLORY TO RUSSIA". It's constantly at every single turn lying and spinning and goal post moving for decades on top of disappearing anyone who challenged the regime. Real brain washing isn't falling into the spin, but real brain washing is keeping your head down. When someone brings up politics, you respond with "yeah, but you know, it's complicated" and then shrugging and walking away. Not putting an extra ounce of thought into it.

It's not brain washing in the sense of blind patriotism. It's brain washing in the sense of being numb to the noise that is politics.

Just something to think about. Really changed my perspective when I became aware of this type of numbing.
