U.S. has 2 massive oceans on either side. Guess it’s a good thing that we have 2 friendly neighbors bordering our country and not threatening to annex them… right? Right?

Even if they weren't friendly, it'd be really difficult to do much damage to the US without severely compromising their own positions. Pretty much everything relevant in Canada is within 100 miles of the US along a completely indefensible border. Mexico would similarly struggle, they have a better position defensively but trying to strike anything north of the Carolinas would be a struggle, and most of their industry is in the North right along the US border.

Not that I'm expecting this to ever actually come to effect, but the US has ridiculous defensive geography, to the point where it feels like cheating.

I know, I’m just making a joke since historically, it’s always been a positive for the US that it’s friendly with its only neighbors that share a land border. But recent events have strained those relationships.

My overall point is that most of the unfriendly countries are far out of drone strike range at this point so it’s still not something US cities have to worry about.

But if Canada did create a drone program, they have a massive area of land to launch them from to hit US cities. So if we did tried to do that idiotic thing of going to war with Canada, American cities getting bombed would be very likely. And if the rest of NATO does their obligation, it would be the full force of The UK, France, Turkey, Italy, Germany, etc.

most of the world's major powers have really good geography. the UK being an island whose navy can control the North Atlantic on the european side, Japan for obvious reasons being almost impossible to launch a full land invasion on, india being a peninsula with the himalayan range separating it from the rest of Asia and naval control over the Indian Ocean. even germany is pretty good. australia isn't great from an offensive perspective but has even better defensive geography than the US.

The major downside of Australia is also its location. It is so far from allies which makes it incredibly difficult to reach to help defend or resupply.

Also, what the heck would we even hold that is worth invading us anyway? The logistical nightmare alone from trying to get to us is already not worth whatever resources we hold.

The sun. They will invade and cover the entire country in solar panels.

I mean most illegal drugs come from Mexico and elsewhere in South America. Canada not so much.

I welcome our new taco truck overlords

2

u/Mr_E_Monkey 18h ago

Yeah, I don't see that as anything but an absolute win.

They enter cause Americans demand those drugs. Mexico and central/South America aren't sending drugs here for fun

2

u/Matt9681 18h ago

They come from the American Government too, bigger threat to their own people than either of the above tbh.

Not surprised you didn't respond to me

Hey, that 20KG of fentanyl that crossed from Canada to the US is justification for Trump declaring Canada responsible for all the drug problems in the US.

3

u/FunGeologist218 18h ago

We forgetting that trump pardoned a literal drug kingpin?

The Silk Road CEO, or am I missing another one?

Wait, there was the president of the Honduras too, right?

2

u/FunGeologist218 17h ago

Yep!!! It’s absurd

1

u/Mr_E_Monkey 17h ago

That's one of the more...polite words for it. 🙂

2

u/FunGeologist218 17h ago

If I use any other ones it won’t leave my mind and I’ll be angry for the rest of the day. I can’t fucking believe this is the world we live in. I wish there was something I could do/I wish I could do more. It’s just sad and really depressing n disheartening

1

u/Mr_E_Monkey 17h ago

I hear you. I've been doomscrolling lately, and I know I shouldn't. If you can avoid it and avoid being angry all day, do that. 🙂

we invade them with people seeking cheap meds and dentistry

Cuba will remain forever relevant in this context

u/RheagarTargaryen 19h ago

Yeah, good thing we have Florida as a buffer space before they can do any real damage.

Alaska is a part of the US and is only 2.4 miles away from Russia at it's closest point. You're closer than it seems, granted Russia would have to storm through Canada to get to mainland US, and those 2 close points are very desolate, but the way flat maps are it makes it seem as if Russia is way further away than they actually are.

I did say “land border”. While I did consider that, it’s really not worth the discussion since the only relevant population centers would be Fairbanks and Anchorage. Both of which are very far from Russia. There’s so much empty space and people are so spread out that using drones to hit Alaska would be extremely inefficient. While it would piss people off, it wouldn’t cause the rest of the country to be afraid of being personally attacked.

Not to say Alaskans are expendable by any means. Just that there’s a very small fraction of Americans that would be exposed to drone attacks from Hostile counties. Those fractions being pacific territories, Hawaii, and Alaska.
