In sure infectious dieseas doctors must get exited when bubonic plague comes through.
As a person with a bleeding disorder one time o had a bleed in my elbow joint. Since they had me on a bed in the hallway all the young doctors came by to see what an internal joint bleed looks like.
Also what is required to attend to a hemophiliac because they all assumed one paper cut I’m dead. They had my pain treated with morphine so I told the doctor I’ll answer any questions.
I have a rare neuromuscular disease that has a very particular EMG pattern. The first time I got hospitalised with it, the doctor got so excited she called up a whole group of medical students to show them that pattern (and me). Apparently, I was only the second ever patient of that hospital to have this disease (as far as the doctor remembered). I was glad I could help, lol
I had Stevens-Johnson Syndrome when I was 20 years old. It’s super rare (affects less than 1% of the population) and potentially fatal. Anyways, I went to the ER and a TON of doctors, nurses, medical students etc., asked to see me because they’d heard about it in class, but had never seen it in person.
i work ems and most of my coworkers refuse to look at certain things when a patient offers to show. I'm all for it, "sure I'll look at the crazy growth on your chocolate starfish!" "you had a blue bowel movement? did you flush it yet!?"
I was looked at with that kind of attention at a public dental hospital, because I naturally lack some teeth. It's hereditary, and my brother lacks the same ones, so we keep the baby teeth in those places throughout adulthood.
Later on, I found a paper stating that it's the next step in the evolution. Since we eat softer foods, we need weaker and smaller jaws, and consequently fewer adult teeth. The lack of teeth is correlated with smaller faces.
Does the urologist really handle piss? I thought it would be nurses and labtechs handling the actual piss, not the urologist who just ordered the test.
My partner is a labtech and she tells me all these stories about disgusting pee samples all the time.
With that face, do you know that diabetes mellitus has "mellitus" in name, that is "good tasting". That's because they used to taste the piss. And now you are making that face because someone is only holding the container, with their hands.
Yeah, good old testing method before we had machines or chemical reactions for sampling. It's kind of fascinating how accurate coulour, smell and taste of urine are for some infections and diseases in general. Tried and tested over centuries, if not even millenia, after all.
It's an interesting detail of medical history, imho.
Ants! That's how they diagnosed diabetes in ancient Egypt: if ants are attracted to your piss, it means it's sweet, which means that "your life is going to be short and miserable" (that's how Hippocrates described having diabetes in ancient times)
Are you a doctor? They did a hand sanitizing check on employees at a hospital where I worked. Certain employees were given the task to watch when people go in and out of rooms and whether or not they used the proper precautions. Doctors by far did the worst at it.

No. I was excited and washed my hands thoroughly afterwards. But you are correct. Wasn’t my most hygienic moment.
