LSU Acceptance Megathread

Hi all,

As some of you may have noticed, there's been quite an increase in "will I get accepted?" posts in the sub lately. In an effort to condense the amount of those posts that we're seeing, please use this thread as a discussion board on that topic. Any new posts relating to acceptance or guidance on acceptance, etc... will be removed.

Hope you all have a wonderful day, and Geaux Tigers!

Venting I can’t take it as a commuter anymore (parking nightmare)

First two weeks of the fall semester are the worst out of everything I ever imagined.
I had all of my classes scheduled on Tuesday and Thursday, and it starts as early as 10:30 and I leave at 4:20, so it’s a full day. I live quite far away, and every day I have to commute to school for about 30-40 minutes depending on the traffic. I always wake up 2 hours early before class to prepare and drive to school. At first, I arrived at 8:40 or 9 thinking optimistically that there would be parking spaces available. But no, heck no. Every freaking parking space available for commuters is freaking filled, and I SPENT 1H40 DRIVING AROUND THE CAMPUS, DRIVING TO EVERY SINGLE KNOWN COMMUTER PARKING LOT, AND IT WAS ALL FILLED, DROVE TO X SPOT, ZERO AVAILABLE. THE MORE I SPENT TO LOOKING FOR A PARKING LOT THE MORE SLOT HAD BEEN TAKEN BY OTHER PEOPLE.
I HAD NO CHOICE LEFT BUT TO SPEND FREAKING $20 JUST TO PARK AT A VISITOR SPOT AND GO TO MY CLASS. I ALREADY SPENT WAY OVER JUST TO GET MY PERMIT EVERY YEAR, IT HAD ME STRESSED OUT SO MUCH. NOW I HAVE TO WAKE UP AS EARLY AS 6 JUST TO GET MY CAR SECURELY PARKED…
Im not mad at other commuters… im mad at the school.

Events Weekend festivities

Hey! I’m a new transfer student here at LSU. Over the past week I’ve noticed how big of a deal sports are here and I wanted to take advantage of all festivities on campus. If anyone could fill me in on what may be going on from tomorrow morning through this weekend that would be great. Also, I heard something about college game day coming to campus, what time should I be on campus to at the front of the crowd??

Housing Questions Anyone still looking for housing?

Not sure if this breaks the “no advertising or monetization” rule, but just posting because I saw those posts from students complaining about parking and commuting. We own a 2-BR/1-BA unit in a gated complex about 2 blocks from north entrance and you can literally walk to your classes.

Our son lived there for 3 yrs and we rented it out last year to a couple students he knew. Btw, the post asking about recent grads: he graduated last May and the engineering company he interned with hired him FT—-so yall don’t fall asleep on those internships!!

It’s currently vacant so it’s ready to move in (either on your own or bring your favorite roommate). We were just planning on using it to go check out games or whenever we visit Baton Rouge, but man, after seeing some posts, figured we may make someone’s life a little easier!

My wife and I have a few things in there that you can definitely keep using: a couch….lamp…table…a couple of bar stools…some wall decor…one tv (not smart)…queen sized bed frame…washer and dryer…and a fridge. We’ll pay for utilities but you pay for your own internet.

It’s mixed tenants so not everyone is a student and it lends itself to being a quiet, decent, and safe place. Message me if you’re interested and we discuss more details and I can meet you there next week.

To the rest of you: good luck this semester and Geaux Tigers!!

Events Parking for Clemson Game

I just got tickets yesterday from a season ticket holder and am clueless on where to park. Especially since I won’t be able to get there until around 4pm Saturday. Does anyone have ideas or suggestions on where we could park? We know at this point and with us getting there so late that it will probably be a hike to get there, but we just need to know that we will be able to park somewhere. Please help and TIA

Academics LSU: Add/Drop class

Hey, does anyone know if the add drop deadline for this semester is at the end of the day today or was it at 4:30. I saw something about 4:30 to complete registration, but i'm not sure if that is the deadline to add or drop a class. I remember last semester it was by the end of the day. Does anyone know bc I still see the swap or drop option available.

Other Setting up a potential DND game outside of campus

Hi! I'm an LSU alum, and I was in the WARS club my entire stint at LSU, and I remember a lot of people interested but unable to play consistently or at all because it's locked in on Fridays. So I'm hoping that a game every other Sunday night might interest some people! I live in Denham, but I'm moving back to BR in January. I haven't decided on a campaign yet, but I'm deciding between a homebrew, Curse of Strahd, or Wild beyond Witchlight. It would be a woman and queer friendly table as well!

For the mods: i'm posting on here because I want to have a game that's available towards younger adults and people around my age, instead of playing with 30+ year olds (nothing wrong with them, it's just hard to find queer friendly DnD players older than that sometimes)

If ur interested, DM me or leave a comment so i can get your discord

Academics Is it worth it to do one web-based class in addition to multiple in-person classes?

Basically just the title of this. There's a queer fashion class that I'm extremely interested in, but it's only web-based. I have been told by many people that it's not worth it, that web-based classes are awful, that if you don't have to take the class then it's not worth it, etc. And I'd still be doing most of my classes in person, it's just this one class that's super interesting to me but I guess I just wanted to ask if anyone else here has taken a web-based class in the past and if it was awful/fine/good/etc?

Thanks :)

Academics Should I buy Cengage Unlimited/Pearson+ for future classes?

I’m a Construction Management major at LSU and I’m taking ISDS right now. I know Business Calculus uses Cengage, and I believe Trigonometry and ECON also use Pearson.

Since the textbooks/homework access codes are so expensive, would it be worth buying Cengage Unlimited and Pearson+ now so I can use them for future classes? Or is it better to just buy the access for each class when I take it?

Also, I got a 68 on ALEKS, so I believe I can take Business Calculus. If I take Business Calculus, does that automatically give me credit for Trigonometry, or would I still have to take Trig separately?

Just trying to figure this out before I spend money on these subscriptions lol. Any CM majors who have taken these classes, let me know!

Discussion Advising Help

I’m a senior this year and I need to meet with an advisor to talk about graduation, but I don’t see any appointment availability. Does anyone know how to get into contact with one? I don’t have one listed in my Navigate portal.

UPDATE: I see on the website that the appointments don’t open up till September 3rd. Thank y’all for the suggestions!

Discussion Nursing School Interview

I just got my interview invitation to LSUHSC School of Nursing. It’s a video interview where they display a question to you and you only have a certain amount of time to answer it, so I am nervous on how I should prepare for it. Can anyone tell me how theirs went? Thank you!!

Discussion FAFSA/TOPS still not disbursed as of 8/31

Is anyone else still waiting for their refund? I had to pay the full amount out-of-pocket for this semester because they still had to verify my FAFSA and whatnot. It got verified shortly after. So I should get the entire reward refunded to my account, yes?

Got three separate emails on 8/19 from LSU notifying me that the funds were posted to my account. I checked and it is visible on workday. Has been for over a week, but I still haven't received it.

I am currently taking Microbiology with Dr Brininstool, and I was wondering if anyone who already took this class had any study tips. I'm not sure if studying the book or the slideshow would be more beneficial. Thanks!

Academics Study Abroad Application Response Time

How long does it typically take to receive a response on a study abroad application? When I submitted it I got an email that said I would get an update in 5 business days, but it’s been about 2-3 weeks. Should I be concerned? Thanks!
