I’d take a jury of my actual peers though… like give me 12 millennials with doctorates and I’m in!

I've always taken jury duty seriously, because it's an important part of a functioning democracy 🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm a GenX with a B.A. and good emotional intelligence.

Much in the same vein of RoguePlanet2, I'm an elder millennial with a BS in comp sci and halfway through an MBA. I did my time in the navy and it absolutely opened my eyes to what the lowest common denominator is in a given group. Empathy is crucial to a functional society. Also, as a government employee I'm obligated to serve jury duty if called. its a necessity to keep everything humming along.

The government pays your wages while you're on jury duty. Unless you have another extenuating circumstance, you're sitting on that jury.

Edit: My literacy after a couple beers isn't what it should be.

My job did not (not the federal government). I got paid minimum wage by the courthouse, I believe? So I definitely lost money, but I wanted to see and be part of the process.

Kind of crazy they leave it up to each employer, though.

I've got a BA in English and was looking forward to jury duty. Unfortunately all the jury positions for multiple trials filled up before they got to me. I am now 70 and haven't been called again.

Is it? Remember, jury duty is something that on a large scale only exists in some commonwealth nations (UK, Canada, Australia) and the US. Basically all other places (esp. most nations in Europe) don't even have juries, and if they have some, they are limited to e.g. only civil proceedings.

For me as a German (where juries existed but are now gone for nearly a century IIRC) juries seem like some old outdated medieval context. I want my court cases to be judged by actually trained professionals with experience, not random people basically pulled off the streets.

I play board games with that section of society and that is the exact niche of "have an idea about something in the first 5 minutes and stubbornly refuse to change your mind about it despite all evidence to the contrary"

Worked with plenty of doctors I wouldn't trust tying my shoes and have also had plenty of professors, who I'm fairly positive, ate leaded paint for breakfast.

lol, most folks with doctorates are absolutely useless if the subject is not in their wheelhouse. Even worse than the average citizen.
