I never thought of it that way. Makes sense because I tend to think oh everyone around me is pretty reasonable, but I'm also in my own little bubble here

Yep, there are so many micro filters around us that weed people out of the places we go and who we interact with. Recruiters, prices, distance from public transit, etc., are all tiny sorting filters that keep us from engaging with the dumbest people on earth. 

Again, unless you're call center or a pharmacy or something.

Then one of the places we really need a filter, our political leadership, where the qualifications are over 18 and breathing. And breathing is optional.

Oh god, I lasted two weeks at a call center in college. We took calls for dealership service departments that were multiple states away from us, to book appointments, help people confirm if they wanted to use the dealerships concierge service, aka if your issue will be fixed in under one day the dealer has a driver who will drop you off and pick you up anywhere within 25 miles of the dealership, or help them sort a loaner car for longer repairs.

The worst were the people who had like a two hour fix and would complain they couldn't have a loaner car, and call back over, and over, trying to get someone else on the phone. It's not like our computer system logs your calls and we fill in a quick summary about why you're calling.

The next worse were the people who wanted to know when their car would be ready. Okay, let me connect you to someone in the service department. "Why can't you just go down and check?" Because I am in a call center hundreds of miles from your car in Missouri.

Then the Racism, I knew your accent was weird I demand to speak to an American, you probably don't even understand me, english pro favor.

Yes you probably can't understand me because unlike Mississippi here in MN we don't say yall, or aint, or I say you I dropped it off. Here let me transfer you to an American, then put them on hold, then take them off and using my same voice ask them how I could help. Most people didn't notice.

By the end I just started putting them into endless loops that would call a line on the dealership that I knew would ring out and ask them to leave a message for our call center. Even that got boring, so I just quit

I worked in a call center for 7 years and I truly believe I have undiagnosed ptsd from the experience.
