I was on a jury once where we had to be sequestered overnight because of one hold out. It sucked.

I can’t imagine being 6 days into it, stuck talking over the same points hour after hour, with one person holding everyone hostage and no end in sight.

In my trial the 2 holdouts stopped early because of laziness/apathy, even though they never changed their minds. We asked for their side but they didn’t want to explain. Didn’t feel great especially when they were both well-read grad students. They also talked about being harsher on the victim because she’s a woman and therefore privileged..

Was that recently? A lot of people are thinking the holdout is the 20ish yo guy that's been refusing to take notes the whole time. I'm actually genuinely concerned about how many men in their 20s and 30s feel like punishing women just because is perfectly acceptable. The discourse from a lot of men online has been really disturbing.

I don't think anyone wants to punish her for being a woman. I think people want her punished because she murdered three children.

Yeah, and when people murder others when they are experiencing psychosis, they generally end up in a mental ward and not prison. Prison is useless for the mentally ill, and just imagine killing your kids under psychosis: people have talked about it. You're not doing this out of cold blood. Now, she may never have had a bout of Post partum psychosis, but if doctors have made that claim (dunno if they did), it's reasonable to not put somebody ill in prison where they'll just get worse.

The ones discriminating in my jury were actually women too. They were trying so hard to be progressive that it looped back around to patriarchal.

During my jury duty we had a couple of holdouts for a few counts and each person said it was fucking terrifying.

One holdout actually successfully swung the rest of us into voting not guilty.

It's their right as juror. That's the point. Bullying them into changing their mind isn't justice.

No one said they didn’t have the right to do it, just that it fucking sucks to be trapped by one person who is determined to send someone to prison when everyone else is looking at the evidence and saying there’s too much reasonable doubt.

No nothing. They remove the televisions and phones from the hotel rooms and confiscate all tech. You couldn’t even have a kindle with you.

Similarly you had to have packed enough clothes and underwear for the whole period, and there’s the risk you’ll run out if it takes longer than you expect.

They have guards in the hall to ensure you don’t leave the hotel room or speak to anyone.

I mostly agree but would shock me if there was one person you truly felt a certain way based on the evidence and some others that might had flipped their votes just to be "done"

That’s what they are trying to do, isn’t it? They have gone to the judge twice saying they can’t come to a verdict and each time the judge sends them back and tells them to keep talking.

Justice for the kids are at stake...whether innocent or guilty leaning the holdout is doing their best to force a retrial because if they give in then the case will be settled the way they dont feel it should.

I am personally leaning towards guilty...but Ill be honest...I want revenge and not justice for those kids...and I am not in that chair and I havent heard all the facts. I know previous cases similar to this one have returned not guilty verdicts due to insanity...but there have been people found guilty as well.

If there is an afterlife...then those kids have forgiven their mom and want what is best for her. I may get downvoted for putting some religious things on here...but cases like this make people feel strongly one way or another.
