Discussion Steffon Darklyn deserved better

Post image

Steffon was one of Rhaenyra’s most loyal men. He risked his life to bring Viserys’ crown to Dragonstone and eventually became Lord Commander of her Queensguard.

And then he died trying to claim Seasmoke. The ironic part is that Steffon was never one of the major players of the Dance. He could have simply remained alive and continued serving Rhaenyra.

Instead, his loyalty literally got him killed, he’s one of the characters who, both in the book and in the series, I would have liked to have seen play a bigger part.

Discussion What if we stopped doing “what if” posts?

I know folks who frequent this sub are just trying to keep engagement going, but man it is exhausting seeing all of these hypothetical posts that ultimately mean nothing. The story is the story.

All the AI “what ifs” on YouTube are bad enough, but now I have to see it here. I just want to get back to good ol’ shit posts as the gods intended, Old and New.

Book Spoilers How I think a second house of dragons would go in the books Spoiler

Post image
8 Upvotes

I don’t know how it would play out story wise but here is my prediction how each faction would get there dragons

Assuming Danny only has her magical dragon bond with drogon since that’s the only dragon we seen her ride. nothing is stopping someone from claiming her other dragons

I would predict that one of her dragons would be away from her (either due to a storm or sm or it’s just away hunting) and young griff would just walk up to it and claim it. Assuming he’s a blackfire or truly aegon, he would have enough magic blood to do it

I would also think Euron would steal one with his magic horn, and now you got a 3 way war with each faction having a dragon

Eventually I think euron horn would fail or he would get killed and his dragon would be free. After that I would think John would claim the dragon and reveal his targeryan blood

I think Danny would aegon would have there dragon vs dragon battle and Danny would kill aegon and his dragon

This would let a dragon corpse to exist for the white walkers to resurrect it

And then in the long night, John and Danny could 1v2 the dead dragon or sm and this is probably where John dragon would die and leave Danny with the only dragon so when she turns mad queen, no one could really stop her until John has to tragically sneak her. Or John could fight her dragon v dragon but that feels a bit too anime like to end it like that

This could be shit, I’m not a writer but this is what made sense to me when I was thinking how the second dance would work.

How do yall think it would go

Playing Stardew Valley and have been naming all my kids and animals after ASOIF characters (about 50% of them are Aegon) and this conversation seemed like it was pulled straight from HotD lol

Show Spoilers Was this explained prior to S1E6? Spoiler

So "Lord" Larys (huh? Alicent calls him "Lord" early in the episode; what is he lord of? His father holds Harrenhal, right?), if I understand correctly, just murdered his father and his brother in cold blood.

And for nothing? Just the hope of some future benefit from the queen?

Is it at all explained or foreshadowed how this person could commit an act so heinous and monstrous? Here in this world where family means everything.

I'm not asking if this is subsequently explained; my question is did I miss something? Some information dump in the earlier episodes where we learn Larys hates his family, or something like that.

EDIT: Ok y'all, you've answered my aside question about "Lord Confessor Larys." But the main point of my post was asking if there's an explanation for how evil the guy is.

Opinion Reading Fire & Blood After Watching HOTD

Post image

Reading the book really puts into perspective how much of HOTD is adaptation versus invention. With only a few hundred pages covering the Dance but four seasons to fill, the writers have had to build a lot of the story themselves.

Book Spoilers HOTD made Jeyne Arryn more visible, but I actually think the show made her a weaker character than she is in the books (alert spoilers) Spoiler

In Fire & Blood, Jeyne doesn't need a lot of screen time to feel like a powerful political figure. There's a certain ambiguity to her. She's clearly loyal to Rhaenyra, but she's also fiercely protective of the Vale and the interests of House Arryn. That's what makes her interesting to me. Her support isn't just "I'm on Rhaenyra's side because she's the rightful queen." There's always the feeling that Jeyne is making a political calculation and asking herself what this war means for the Vale.

And ironically, giving her more dialogue doesn't necessarily give her more depth.

Book Jeyne feels like a lord in everything but name calculating, proud, politically conscious and difficult to read. Show Jeyne feels much more like a character designed to explain the political situation to Rhaenyra (and the audience). Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I actually prefer the less-developed version from the book because the ambiguity makes her feel more like a real medieval political figure.

Opinion Unpopular opinion: Daemon and Alys >>> Aemond and Alys

Post image
59 Upvotes

Am I crazy for finding the chemistry between Daemon and Alys better than Aemond and Alys? I don't mean in a sexual/romantic kinda way. I mean in the general chemistry and vibe between two characters/actors interacting with each other on screen kinda way. Watching Alys and Daemon always seemed fun. And it even felt like Daemon was actually making a friend. Compared to that, Aemond and Alys are supposed to be a couple canonically but watching their interactions isn't interesting at all, and it feels fake and corny for some reason. I mean am I really supposed to believe that a centuries old witch is genuinely in love with a... what? 18? 19? year old boy- and a Targaryen at that?

Discussion aegon is clearly the most interesting character

Yet we see none of him for the entire season and only gets 1 good scene. There is so much filler it’s insane. They mask it pretty well but now that it’s been a few weeks so much of the show is filler and forgettable. The aegon dragon scene tho was peak. The king is coming home
