The bill, led by North Carolina Republican Virginia Foxx, aims to rewrite the Higher Education Act of 1965 to prevent institutions that take part in "a nonexpressive commercial boycott of Israel" from receiving federal funding under the original bill.

The 237-169 vote on the House floor meant the legislation, known as the Protect Economic and Academic Freedom Act of 2026, passed and is headed for the Senate.

The idea that protecting provocative speech by visitors and immigrants renders the Constitution a ‘suicide pact’ might be one of the most absurd examples of snowflakery I’ve ever seen in my life.

The 41-page complaint from the Electronic Privacy Information Center (EPIC) challenges a section of an executive order from President Donald Trump that it says has not yet been addressed by a court ruling. The organization is not just concerned about the privacy implications of the federal government seizing citizens' personal information such as Social Security numbers (SSNs), but also about the apparent harm to citizens' voting rights.

I'm just finding out that this is the only place I can talk about this because it has become such a politically divided issue...somehow. It's a sad World we live in when we can't even criticize murderers.

Quebec's new secularism rules took effect September 1, forcing Dawson, Vanier and other institutions to close prayer rooms and remove religious materials; STM employees likewise can no longer pray anywhere on its premises.

The law is quite wild. Quebec's own guidance says individual as well as collective religious practice is prohibited throughout covered buildings and grounds, and it defines religious practice as any conduct that reasonably appears to manifest a religious belief. Prohibiting a student or employee from privately praying is wild.

H.R. 10174, the GRANITE Act, was introduced last week and would prevent U.S. courts from recognizing or enforcing foreign judgments, fines, orders, or demands based on foreign censorship laws that conflict with the First Amendment.

Basically, other countries can make whatever speech laws they want for their own jurisdictions, but those laws shouldn’t be enforceable through American courts when they would violate constitutional protections here.

The bill also gives Americans and U.S. companies targeted by one of these judgments a way to go to federal court and have it declared unenforceable.

I think this is a pretty important protection as foreign governments increasingly regulate American platforms and online speech.
