Shitpost My “Manta Ray”

Post image
Upvotes

This Zildjian “Manta Ray” has been hanging on my studio wall as an art installation for years. I created it myself on tour back in 2004 when I couldn’t afford a replacement, so I just kept playing it.

Had I known it was worth this much $$$ I might have sold it years ago. Maybe this one is worth MORE since it’s custom made?! /s

Unfortunately, the drums are directly above our bed, so his double pedals are our alarm clock now.

No hate to Ray, but unfortunately shrinkflation is literally affecting cymbals…$600 for a third of a china cymbal?? At that point, buy 6 Wuhans and have some change left over…they sound better too. This is insulting.

First Kit HELP! Thinking about an electronic drum kit for a small apartment ... worth it or will I regret it?

Hey everyone,

I've been wanting to learn drums for a while (mostly inspired by indie, shoegaze, and ambient music), but I live in a small Seattle apartment, so an acoustic kit is out of the question unless I want my landlord knocking on my door within a week.

I keep seeing people recommend electronic kits ...something like an Alesis Nitro or an entry-level Roland — as the best way to start. But before I spend the money, I want to know if they're actually worth it or if I'll end up disappointed.

A few questions for anyone who's been down this road:

  • Feel/rebound — Is it realistic enough? If I learn the basics on mesh pads, will that translate to an acoustic kit later, or am I just building bad habits/muscle memory?
  • Sound quality — Are cheap e-kits actually fun to play? I've heard mixed things about entry-level module sounds. Do the stock samples get annoying fast, or are they totally fine for building limb independence at home?
  • Noise — With headphones on, are these actually apartment-safe? Or does the kick pedal still send vibrations through the floor?

If you started on an e-kit, I'd love to hear whether it felt like money well spent, or if you wish you'd saved up for studio/jam space time on a real kit instead.

Thanks in advance for any advice!!!

I’m new to drums and I am using a edrums but decided to use a hi hat controller to use for my hi hat which requires a real hi hat stand

I bought a cheap hi hat stand but don’t know how to adjust the tension of the pedal.

Question Best modern drummer issues?

Upvotes

So I've just gotten myself the online subscription to Modern Drummer, after recently seeing a post here. Went through the latest issue and have to say, it does have a lot of good info. I am wondering if anyone has any specific issue that they enjoyed due to an interview, a review or a specific exercise was featured in them that they found specifically useful. I guess the exercises are the most interesting thing for me at the moment, I am recently trying to incorporate a lot of different things in my practice to improve my playing and creativity.

Thanks in advance!

Kit Pic Turned this 1960s MIJ kit into a workhorse. Replaced the hoops, the swivel nuts, tension rods, added DW clamp on spurs, go rid of the tom mount and original spur mounts, new heads, muffled all lug springs. Paired it with my 80s era Pearl brass snare.

Question I need help finding my first double pedals

Upvotes

I have been playing drums for around 10 years now and have been wanting a pair of double kick pedals but have no clue where to start. My budget would be around 150 -200 usd. But I would like to get a good pair that will last rather then get a cheap pair. I also don’t have my own kit so I will have to take the kick off and on every time I go practice.

I would love some recommendations!

Question New drummer, learning. What are the "bad" YouTube channels that I should avoid?

I have been watching Drumeo and I like it. It's fun, I learned things, I'm entertained.

What are the bad ones? Are there any?

Question Anybody know how to get the stick sound in this song?

Probably a stupid question, but does anybody know how to get those stick hit sounds that play throughout this song? Are they drumsticks, and if so, what surface are they playing against? It almost sounds like they're clicking on the rim of something?
