BREAKING: Columbus to pause Flock

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther is pausing the city's use of Flock Safety license plate readers after evidence of misuse of the surveillance technology.

The mayor is expected to provide more details about the decision at a 10 a.m. press conference, a mayoral spokesperson confirmed to The Dispatch.

The announcement comes after The Dispatch asked the Columbus Division of Police this week about an officer a USA TODAY analysis of Flock data flagged as suspicious.

Utilities making record profits. Utility CEOs making tens of millions of dollars in compensation. Data centers consuming record amounts but not paying their share. Record numbers of disconnects to regular Ohioans.

I believe in capitalism, but this is pure greed. Greed at the expense of those who cannot afford any more of this.

Perhaps it is time to put a cap on profits.

EVENT Trash Party Cleanup Recap/Join Us on Sept 12th!

hey hey Columbus! It was great to see a number of familiar faces and some new ones too this past Saturday, August 29th. Trash Party had 25+ volunteers who came out and worked hard to clean up a wooded area in the Highland West neighborhood. After about 3 hours, the final count showed 316 trash bags & other bulk material had been removed, totaling almost 7,100 lbs.

This brings our yearly total to about 83,000 pounds, and our cumulative total to about 153,000 pounds removed from an assortment of city trails, streets, parks, green spaces, and waterways.

Looking for a fun and rewarding experience? Have 30 minutes to 3 hours you want to spend outdoors on a Saturday, but not sure how to use it? Totally understand if that's prime car-into-building time though, no worries :) Anyone can come and join our cleanups, and it's a great community building and social opportunity.

No event this holiday weekend, but we'll be enjoying an almost-Fall event on Saturday, September 12th from 9am-Noon in the Franklinton neighborhood. Sign up link will be in the comments below.

Martha's Famous Birra is one of my favorite places to eat. They are the original owners and staff of Martha's Fusion Kitchen(don't go here). they deserve the communities support. plus it slaps.

There is seating with plenty of shade and parking. Try the Horchata!

I appreciate the countless United States Postal Service workers who deliver our mail daily in these vehicles; I find it poetic that we cannot replace these aging units for our postal staff. Sad

went to the dentist after 4 years of avoiding it

this sounds dumb but ive been putting it off forever. not because i dont care about my teeth but because i was terrified of being judged. last time i went the hygienist literally sighed at me and said you need to do better. felt like i was in trouble so just stopped going.

then my back molar started hurting and i couldn't put it off anymore. my partner helped me find a place because i was too anxious to even call. she said the reviews mentioned they were good with nervous patients.

went in yesterday. the hygienist was nice. not condescending. not judgmental. just asked what i was worried about and listened. the dentist explained my xrays instead of just handing me a treatment plan.

i only need one filling. not the 5 the previous place told me i needed years ago. feels like i wasted so much time being scared of something that wasn't even that bad.

anyone else avoid the dentist for years and finally go back? how did it go for you?

Free fares because of the heat wave hahahhahahahha what a joke the bus will leave you sitting in the heat for an hour and a half. Also Ohio state forcing you to pay in your tuition access to COTA is ridiculous considering you can’t rely on it

Food donations

Where can I donate bagels close to downtown/S Cbus? I have a small bagel business and sell at farmers markets. When my markets don't go well, I have leftovers I donate. In the past I donated to the Faith Mission, but the last time we donated there, they still had bagels there from a week prior and I don't like that. They need to be served within a couple days or they go stale. I've also donated to Ro's kitchen with IMPACT, but they said they can't accept too many. I know there are a lot of homeless and needy in my area, but don't know who to give them to in order to feed the people I'm trying to feed. Not looking to donate to a food pantry necessarily, as anyone can get from a pantry. I'd really like to assist the neediest people.
