New temporary setup, was too excited about my new anvil to wait and build a proper stand/forge

We bought a new house and there’s a large bucket of these very big steel bolts and some nuts in my new forge. They look like they could be great for knives. They’re about 7” long by 2” wide. Stamp says USAF but it couldn’t be Air Force parts could it? Any idea what the carbon content could be? I’ll spark / file test them when I get the forge running, but if anyone can identify them let me know!

Hello, I'm at it again, I hope nobody minds me posting my journey around here and as always any advice is welcome, so I started to tackle ,after my first knife, my first set of tongs! Alongside it I made a quick puncher so I can use it on my tongs, this ain't finished yet and some bits are a bit crooked yea but the way I think about it is that I try to get the rough shape of the thing I'm making then working towards straightening and polishing it!

Bonus my tiny anvil set-up, I need to raise it a bit tho but first I need a new 🪵

I'm hoping to get some opinions on if this anvil would be a good buy as someone looking to get into blacksmithing. Is this a decent brand?

Forged from 1095 bar stock . The twist didn’t quite go exactly how I wanted it to, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out.

I have not seen these particular backwards "77" markings. It reads B:100771 stamped into the side body but the 7s are mirrored. There are no other visible makings on the base/feet. It weighs 112 lbs, has double hardie/pritchel holes and a clip horn. The face is narrow at about 3". It appears to have a cast base and solid tool steel body/face. I can tell it's a farrier style, but am wondering if anyone recognizes the maker.

I made this palette knife for my daughter headed off to art school. The only reason it was a two day build was because my tank ran dry mid forging. Made from 1/2” round mild steel with a zebra wood handle. Hand a bit of grinding to get the blade thin enough to flex under pressure. Hidden tang handle, epoxy set about 2.25” deep, 1/4” round at the tang.

I recently got a ( I believe) tin smith anvil from an estate sale that was previously owned by a smith that sadly passed. 2 things to note are that the anvil face and horn has been forge welded to the rest of the body or neck, and there are no ware marks on it. Not even smooth spots on any part. The forge welding makes me suspect it's old. But the general lack of any aging of the metal or worn down parts makes me think it's a reproduction of an older style to be used at a historical site that does living history tin work. Has anyone ever seen this makers mark? It kinda looks like a simplified anime face with a crown. I've been asking both historical tinsmith's and blacksmiths about this, and they've never seen the mark before. That makes me worried I have something rare, so I don't want to use it until I know who made this and why it was never used. I know I probably have grammatical errors, but I'm typing on a tablet, and editing on this thing sucks. If anyone can tell me what I have or point me somewhere where I can look up makers marks , it would really be helpful. Thanks

I posted on here a while back trying to get my forge to stop spewing blue flames out the front of it. I have fixed that issue by lengthening the tubes to 8” and upgrading the MIG tip from 0.03” to 0.035” but I can’t seem to be able to get this thing up to forge welding temperatures.

The whole reason I did a 2 burner was to be able to forge weld. I even put them at a 45° angel to get a nice vortex, but still no dice.

A couple days ago I had 8” long 3/4” pipes, but I replaced them with 9” thinking that the gas needed more time to mix with the air. And it seems maybe a little hotter? I can’t be sure, but still nowhere near hot enough. Do I need to go up another MIG tip size? Do I shorten the tubes again? Did I shoot myself in the foot by doing 3/4” and not 1”? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m banging my head against a wall trying to figure this out.

Heya this is my first time getting into this hobby, and I just applied my refractory coating to my forge. And I noticed all of these cracks. I know that some hairline cracks are alright, but I’m not too sure if these qualify as that. I haven’t fired the forge yet, and I am all out of cement.
