Hoover Dam running low on water

Post image

I have been reading about the lack of water in the Colorado River that is now getting many people worried as water levels are dropping weekly around Lake Mead and the Hoover Dam. I was out that way five years ago and couldn't believe how much the water level has fallen. Twenty years ago the water level was pretty high now on recent videos law enforcement are finding bodies, old cars in Lake Mead as water levels continue to get lower and lower. Even the rain they had out there earlier in the week didn't increase the water flow much. There wasn't much snow out west this past winter. If the water levels drop below 1035 feet at the dam there may be a loss of hydro electric power. Hydro Electric power from the dam services millions of people in the areas below the dam. What do you think

Would a fresh/grey water tank that uses the same physical volume be useful for camping?

I’ve been camping myself for almost 10yrs, and this idea I’ve been thinking about based on my own experiences.

The basic idea is a rigid outer tank containing a flexible potable-water bladder.

You start with, for example, 20 L of fresh water inside the bladder. As you use the water for washing dishes, brushing your teeth, washing your hands, etc., the bladder collapses and the grey water goes into the space around it.
So, instead of carrying:
20 L fresh water + a separate 20 L grey-water tank
you essentially have one 20 L physical footprint that transitions from:
20 L fresh → 0 L fresh + \~20 L grey

The goal would be to have a compact, closed system for boondocking, overlanding, tent camping or small RVs, where you don't want to dump soapy/dirty water directly onto the ground.
The potable water and grey water would obviously remain completely separated, with separate connections and appropriate backflow protection.

I'm not sure if this is actually a useful idea or if I'm overlooking some obvious problem.

For people who camp/boondock:
\- How do you currently deal with grey water?
\- Do you carry a separate grey-water container?
\- Do you ever avoid using water because you don't have a good way to dispose of it?
\- Would saving the physical space of a separate grey-water tank be useful?
\- What would be the biggest problem with a system like this?

I'm more interested in real-world experience and criticism than "that's a cool idea." If there's an obvious reason this wouldn't work, I'd genuinely like to hear it.

I made a very rough sketch of the concept below.

City of Delaware Admitted They Don't Give Notice Before Water Shutoffs — Here's Why That's a $140 Million Mistake

City of Delaware Admitted They Don't Give Notice Before Water Shutoffs — Here's Why That's a $140 Million Mistake

I received this email from the City of Delaware's Finance Department.

Their position?

"City Code does not require advance notice before a water shutoff."

Translation: They knowingly shut off water without telling you.

Here's the problem with that argument...

City ordinance cannot override the U.S. Constitution.

The Supreme Court made this clear in Memphis Light, Gas & Water v. Craft (1978):

"A utility must provide adequate notice and an opportunity to be heard before terminating service."

That means:

· Advance notice

· Date of disconnection

· Right to deposit

· Amount owed

· Right to dispute charges

· Right to a hearing

A line buried on a bill is NOT compliance.

A city ordinance cannot bypass due process.

Now for the part they don't want to talk about — the math:

The City said this has been their policy for YEARS.

1,000 shutoffs per year × 10 years = 10,000 violations

At $3,500 per violation (statutory damages) that's $35 million.

Add a class action multiplier of 2 to 4 and you're looking at:

$70 MILLION to $140 MILLION in potential liability.

That's not a threat. That's just math.

That's the cost of doing nothing.

Fixing the policy costs them NOTHING by comparison.
