A Korean travel YouTuber recently shared a frustrating experience from his trip to Uzbekistan.

While visiting his hotel's snack bar, he was charged 90,000 UZS ($8) for a single can of Mountain Dew. Although he initially paid, he later realized he had been overcharged by 15 times and demanded a refund.

Instead of helping, the Uzbek clerk pretended not to speak English and mocked him. When the YouTuber turned to other hotel staff for assistance, they also laughed it off and insisted the price was correct.

After he posted the footage online, it went viral on TikTok and YouTube. In response, the Uzbekistan Tourism Association issued an official apology and extended an invitation for him to return. The YouTuber has asked the association to take disciplinary action against the staff involved, but he has yet to receive a follow-up.

Do you think this is a common occurrence for foreigners traveling to Uzbekistan? Charging 90,000 UZS for a can of Mountain Dew is absolutely wild. But what’s even wilder is how everyone else sided with the clerk. Even with a camera rolling, did they really think it was okay to rip off a tourist like that?

I know in Tashkent, there is a big discrimination against those who did not marry in their early 20s and don't have 3 children by their 30s. People automatically assume there is something wrong with them.

Hello everyone. I'm 21 y.o male (kinda good looking) living in Tashkent. I am basically a student who made it to 4th year of uni called uzswlu. I have a background working in a logistics company for over a year. At that time everything was fine since my english is very good. But then one day I collapsed. I found out I had a real concerning health issue and continuing working would make me childless in future. Now I'm able to barely afford food and a lot ot debt from tbc and outside. I might look like a beggar for asking this but even if you could give me 10$ for a food it would mean a lot really. But that's not what I'm here for. I need an advice or if possible a place to work where I can use my english or some general skills to make decent money without putting my body in some pressure. Since this issue i somehow gained will stay with me for a long time and i am still taking meds. I don't know what to do really. Living is hard especially when you are on your own and sitting at the bottom :')

Hi, I'm a 23M working in Tashkent in the IT sphere. My current salary is around $2500 after taxes. I'm single and live with my family in our own house, so I don't have to spend much on myself. I usually spend around $50–100 a month, saving a lot of money by bringing homemade food for lunch.

I have around $20k in a bank deposit and I'm thinking about starting a passive income. Since deposit interest rates have been getting lower in recent years, it's no longer profitable in the long term.

I’m moving to Namangan, to teach, and I’m trying to figure out what my daily life will be like. From what I can see, it seems like it’s going to be very boring and uneventful. Please tell me I’m wrong. I’m a single woman, in my mid 30‘s. I want to join a gym, or fitness classes, but I can’t seem to find any (for women) as an option. I would also like to know about cafes, parks, and other activities to do after work or on the weekends. It also seems like online shopping is basically nonexisten. I‘ve curated a very nice wishlist from SHEIN, but it doesn’t look like it’s possible to have it shipped to Uzbekistan. I‘ve looked at sites like wildberries, yandex market, and uzum, but I don’t like their clothing options. The shops I like and know are available in the country, only seem to exist in the capital. Is there an actual mall in Namangan, or is it just shops with traditional modest Muslim clothing? I truly have looked into this myself, but I’m not finding anything. While I am 100% excited about meeting the people, learning about the culture, and eating the AMAZING food, I don’t think I’m asking too much to be able to shop online and join fitness classes. Especially since I’ll be in the second largest city in the country. I can find pretty much everything I want in Tashkent, but that’s about where it ends when looking up things online about Uzbekistan.

I'm, 31M uzbek, living in Tashkent. I spent most of my adult life abroad and moved back to Uzbekistan last year. Since returning, I've been trying to build a serious relationship and eventually start a family, but honestly, it's been much harder than I expected.

A bit about me: I have a decent job, have an apartment in Tashkent, and I'd say I'm reasonably attractive and look younger than my age. I'm mostly Russian-speaking and not religious.

The challenge is that most women I've met seem to fall into one of twoi categories:

1. Very religious, where our lifestyles and values don't really match.
2. Women with extremely high expectations from a partner while bringing very little to the table themselves.

I'm not looking for a traditional arrangement where the man does everything and the woman just exists. I can cook, clean, do household chores, and generally take care of myself. What I'm looking for is a genuine partnership where both people contribute and support each other.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong places, or maybe I'm missing something about the local dating scene.

So, where should I look? Through friends, hobbies, social events, something else?

AI always tells me it's Uzbek, but on Social media I seem to see Russian much more often. Is social media just giving me the wrong impression, or do many people actually prefer Russian online?

I have a question to the Uzbeks who know Russian. How you learned it? I mean I'm 16 and i understand this language when someone speaks to me or writes to me but I can't talk and write to them because my Russian is bad. How can I improve my Russian. Can u give me any ideas except going for language courses.
