Where are all these tuition money going to??? The tuition increase is insane and they can't even get the wi-fi going. There should be an opt out button for all these "services" that the majority of us don't use.

Taste of the U was garbage this year!! The planning between groups sucked and my group (and other groups) waited 15-20 min for food that wasn’t even that good tbh. Last year there was Highlevel diner, papa johns, MULTIPLE places in ECHA/KHRA, Firehouse Subs etc. All were amazing and delicious! This year it was literally chips, fries, and popcorn from different places…

I swear everything gets worse every year… sigh

AND to people who say it’s not a lot of money for the tickets I GET THAT! But that doesn’t change the fact that this years Taste of the U was just worse!

I ordered a french vanilla and a plain bagel and waited almost 25 minutes for it when the line was pretty short when I ordered. I understand there are online and kiosk orders too but I saw so many workers in the back seemingly looking confused. I think they need a new system that is more efficient. Now I have a hot bagel and a cold french vanilla ☹️.

• While the university is cutting funding to non-profit child care, it maintains a corporate membership with Kids & Co., a for-profit multinational conglomerate that operates only off-campus child-care centres. Membership is limited to faculty and staff. Student parents such as Seitz are not eligible. The university has refused to disclose what that arrangement costs.
• A Kids & Co. corporate membership is not unique to the U of A. The universities of British Columbia, Calgary and Toronto all maintain similar arrangements — with one critical difference. Each uses Kids & Co. only for emergency or priority-access care. None of those universities has cut funding to their own non-profit, campus-affiliated child-care centres.

First vear, went to the week of welcome stuff today while also spending a couple hours sitting in the cab as ot approached 4 cab got so quiet and the mainstays just stayed quiet the entire time. It was honestly so depressing. We have so many students here does everyone iust do their work and go home? Please tell me it will get better, also wondering how the frat parties are, are they dead just like campus? Also im an engineering student so I expect the people in my classes to act like this but for some easier stuff and especially first week why no fun?

Okay so I’ve moved here from Calgary and use the transit pretty frequently. I’ve only taken the train going south of the university (to Century park) and havent seen anything concerning. I know that Calgary’s Transit system can get sketchy around the Northeast quadrants, and since I’ve heard that this city can be a lot more dangerous than Calgary, I was wondering which places would be best to avoid. Any particularly sketchy bus routes? or train stations I should avoid?

I just got an offer to the Faculty of Engineering today and I'm unable to start any courses until the upcoming Tuesday because my deposit is still being processed. I'm scared I missed anything important even though the first week hasn't even ended yet.

I'm wondering what did the courses and workload looked like this week? (I'm assuming half of it is going over the syllabi)

Anything I need to prepare for next week? (Materials, calculators, etc.)

And should I review any calculus, chem, or physics concepts before going in?

So I've been reading through my lab manual like crazy, and it says to put your data on the right hand page and the calculations on the left hand. Is there a proper place to put your experimental plan? Also for the calculations does it matter if it's on the bank or graph pages?

Hello! I’m currently a UofA student entering year 2 in the business program and hoping to transfer to Nursing for Fall 2027. My gpa (from the 24 credits I obtained) was 3.58 and have yet to take a Casper as applications have not yet opened.

My question is, is this a good enough gpa to take the year off and hope on my chances on getting into the program? Or should I continue taking courses, potentially raising (or dropping) my gpa. As I don’t want to waste anymore tuition money. I’m unsure of what the competitive gpa is for nursing transfer and how important it is to score well on the Casper test. I did consider after degree, but I know the competitive gpa is much higher. I think I would also be applying to the program as a mature student compared to those coming from high school.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!!
