Never seen it before, looks very cool to me!

Rewatching Lost for the 2nd time, and in season 1 episode 10 "Raised By Another" around the 30:21 mark a plane can be seen. I wonder if that's a mistake or could it be something intentional?

Ever left the island during their time at Dharma?

I always assumed they never left from the time they arrived on the island but then I realised Sawyer must have left the island to buy Juliet’s engagement ring. Then I thought maybe Sawyer and Juliet went for little trips off the island on the sub, which I think is kind of sad thinking that they willingly kept returning to the island which had imprisoned both of them. I get at this point they consider it their home but still.

Then I went down a rabbit hole and thought how many of and how often do Dharma folk get off the island and then obviously they had to have a secrecy pledge or something to prevent them telling others about it. They’re getting regular drops of food but do they get to go visit their family and friends for holidays? Do they get paid for their work in addition to getting free housing and food, in which case how did our guys get bank accounts? Do people even get paid into bank accounts in the 70s or did they get cheques in which case they have to cash them? Do they all have a stash of cash under the bed?

None of this really matters to the plot but just wondering how it worked.

Have a craving to watch again. What are your thoughts on a third watch through?

I don't know if I am a golden pass rewatcher but I'm a rewatcher. No other flair suited my post.

First rewatch, still Season 1 but I realized that this show is so easy to binge because there are no long Intros like in From or other shows.

Yes I like good Intros but when I binge a show the just annoy me.

"Across the Edit" is my attempt at a fan made edit of LOST's season 6 episode 15, "Across the Sea".

This is just a short teaser from the opening of the full re-edit.

I’ve always felt like "Across the Sea" deserved a slightly different treatment. The episode itself was already a pretty bold choice. Putting something this detached from the main story and characters so close to the end was already a risk, and I always respected that. I just kind of wished they went all the way with it, not only with the story itself, but with how the episode was presented and how it felt.

Something closer to what "The Constant" was in its own way. Not necessarily similar in style, but just an episode that feels completely unique inside the show.

For me, the familiar LOST structure and editing reduced the impact of "Across the Sea". I always imagined it as something slower, quieter, more introspective and more visual. Something that lets you sit with the atmosphere a little more, instead of always moving on to the next line or the next piece of information.

That’s basically what I’m trying to do with this edit.

Of course, I’m working completely with footage that already exists, so that makes it difficult sometimes. There are shots I wish lasted longer, scenes I wish could breathe a little more, or just moments where I wish I had more to work with. So a lot of this is really me trying to find a different feeling inside the material that’s already there, and trying to get as close as I can to how I always imagined the episode in my head.

I’m also using music from the earlier seasons of LOST. I felt like that could help balance the different visual and editing style, but also give it a subtle full circle feeling. Something familiar in the music, while the story itself is being presented in a slightly different way.

Still working through the full edit, so I’d genuinely love to hear any thoughts or feedback on the direction so far.

Rewatching the scene when Richard is trying to recruit Juliette and she says her ex would never allow her to go!! Then she says “ If he were hit by a bus, how about that!? Then, next thing you know, 🚍 WHAM!!!!!! 😵. Now THAT was a chilling scene cuz it happened to fast!!!! lol

Bought this very cool poster off Etsy and it arrived last night. My goal is to get it signed by a few of the actors.

There are honestly so many reasons I love Lost that I could write a whole book about it lol. But one of the biggest things for me was how hard it was to actually pick a side.

In Game of Thrones, you have characters you love and characters you want to see die. Breaking Bad made us care about a meth dealer, Dexter made us root for a serial killer, and La Casa de Papel made us care about a bunch of robbers.

Lost never really felt like that. There wasn’t a clear good side or bad side. They were just people. Sometimes they were right, sometimes they were wrong, and sometimes they were just idiots 😂

I’d be completely on Jack’s side one episode, then a few episodes later I’d be like, “Okay… maybe Locke was right.”

Sawyer is probably the best example. I hated him at first, then somehow he became one of my favorite characters.

That’s what I love most about Lost. Even with all the crazy sci-fi and mystery, the characters just feel like real people. Nobody is completely good or completely evil.

I watched LOST when it originally aired and just finished watching it again with my 13 year old
I was 25 when LOST premiered and watched the whole thing week by week. Waiting months to find out what was in the hatch. Reading theories. Talking about episodes all week. Trying to figure out what the hell was going on.
I just watched the whole series again with my 13 year old son for his first time and I think watching him watch it was almost as interesting as watching the show again.
The biggest difference was that he wasn’t trying to beat the show.
I kept waiting for theories. Who are the Others? What is the smoke monster? What’s going on with Locke? What’s the island?
He just let the show happen.
When Locke died and came back he figured it was time travel. Then he just kept watching. Charlie dying genuinely upset him. Hurley was his favorite character. He liked Locke. And when we got to the finale, which I was probably most curious about because of the reaction it got when it originally aired, he loved it.
And I still love it.
Watching it again at 47 though, I realized I see some of these characters VERY differently.
Locke might be the most tragic character on the entire show.
He’s actually a lot like Ben, which I’m sure some people will disagree with.
Both of them know the island matters. Both desperately want to be the person the island needs. Both spend their lives getting incredibly close to that purpose without ever actually reaching it.
And honestly, I think Locke could have been the next Jacob.
Of everyone on that island, protecting it makes the most sense for him. He finally finds the place where he belongs and spends the rest of his life being manipulated because of how badly he wants that belonging to mean something.
Then the Man in Black literally takes his identity and uses Locke’s faith to accomplish the exact opposite of what Locke wanted.
That’s fucking tragic.
Ben makes me much sadder now too. When I was younger I saw much more of the manipulative asshole. He’s still a manipulative asshole, but now I also see this incredibly insecure and damaged guy who desperately wants to matter to something bigger than himself.
Michael, on the other hand, I have LESS sympathy for now.
And this is probably the part that will piss some people off.
Watching the show again as a father made Michael more frustrating to me, not less.
He spends an enormous amount of the show fighting to get Walt back. WAAAAALT became a joke for a reason. But when he actually has Walt, so much of his relationship with him seems to be about controlling him instead of actually getting to know the kid in front of him.
He fought like hell for the opportunity to be Walt’s father and then, in my opinion, dropped the ball when he got it.
I understand why Michael did a lot of what he did. I just don’t think understanding it automatically makes him a good father.
But the biggest thing that’s changed for me isn’t Michael or Locke.
It’s what I think LOST is actually about.
I never hated the finale. I never thought they were dead the whole time. But at 47 I understand the ending differently than I did when I first watched it.
No matter who you are, what you’ve screwed up, what you’ve accomplished or how important you thought you were, eventually the most important part of your life is the people you met and the people you helped along the way.
That’s LOST to me now.
And weirdly, watching it with my son made me appreciate that even more.
The only thing I think he genuinely missed was something you can’t recreate by streaming it.
The waiting.
Waiting a week after an episode. Waiting an entire summer after a finale. Talking about it with people. Reading insane theories. Being completely convinced you figured something out and then finding out you weren’t even close.
That was part of LOST too.
He didn’t get any of that and still loved the show.
For those of you who watched LOST when it originally aired, I’m curious if getting older changed which characters you sympathize with or even what you think the show was ultimately about.

I’ve just finished watching lost for roughly the 20th time and every single time I get to the final episode, I cry like a baby. Sobbing. Does this show touch anyone else like this? I always think, ‘it won’t happen this time because I’ve seen it soooo many times’ and then there I am, absolutely bawling.
What an incredible show! I just absolutely adore it. My favourite show ever. It is just phenomenal.

Does anyone remember this? It was basically a program that you would start and then your computer was just essentially the exact same as the one in the hatch. You couldnt do anything else on it and there would be the countdown and if you didnt enter the numbers, it would turn start blaring and turn to the hieroglyphs. I remember having it around the time of Season 5 or 6

Here's something fun: as much as Michael Giacchino loves to work with recurring themes and leitmotifs*, there's a brief melody that appears just once on LOST. You can hear it when Kate reads Sawyer's letter in "Confidence Man". However, an unused second version of the same motif can be heard in the official "sneak peek" for the season 4 finale. This clip was released shortly before the episode aired. In the final cut of the finale that aired on TV, an entirely different track was used.

In other words: this was meant to be a recurring motif Giacchino intended to revisit, but it never made a second appearance in the aired version of the show. 

As confirmed by Giacchino to The New Yorker, initial cuts of LOST episodes do have temp tracks (placeholder music used during the editing of a movie or TV show), but the music is Giacchino's own score composed for earlier episodes. The "sneak peeks" released by ABC would often feature this original temp score. Alex Ross writes: "[Giacchino] mutes the track when viewing the footage. Sometimes he listens to the temp once he is done, to see whether he has overlooked any possibilities, but he seldom changes his mind." 

This unused soundtrack from LOST has haunted my dreams for nearly 20 years - what was this score originally intended for? Why was it not used? How dare the person that made this decision?! Last month, I finally figured it out. 

Any scene from seasons 3 - 6 that do not feature any original score is immediately suspicious to me. And here we go: I isolated the music from the season 4 finale sneak peek and inserted it in this brief (music-free!) scene from "The Brig", adding a small portion of Sawyer's theme from "Confidence Man" at the start.

As you can tell, the unused soundtrack fits like a glove. It has the right length and hits all the right beats; 

1. Sawyer's theme starts playing as he starts talking about his file. 
2. When Locke asks, “who'd you mean to kill?”, Giacchino's score responds with a callback to the moment Kate read Sawyer's letter 
3. When Sawyer deflects, the score changes direction and the strings swell as we cut to flashback.
