Almost every time I'm at the grocery store, I usually catch a glimpse of someone in line for the pfandautomat or even the cash register looking like they are about to completely lose it because theres a minute or two wait. Making exasperated sighs, shifting from foot to foot angrily, grabbing on to the shelf angrily for support, muttering to themselves. It's incredible 😂

It used to give me slight stress when I first came here but now everytime I am chuckling at how much they are hamming it up 😂 . There's a wait at the pfandautomat every time! Why are you surprised?

I'm a bit of a metal fan and seen them live twice by now. One of the most incredible and ridiculous live shows I've ever seen. Musically they're incredible within their genre. Rammstein is very popular here, but at the same time there's always this deep uneasiness about the things they sing about and portray. Especially when you take European history into account. Which is probably the point in some ways. I was wondering though if they're even popular in Germany or how they are generally perceived over there?

Recently, I have been being paid daily visits von diesem feathery, dark, and quite fellow. Upon leaving my apartment heading to work, at around 5:30 AM this mysterious bird would be camping outside the building in a safe distance of approximately 10 meters, which he's so persistent to keep upon being approached.

Attempts to feed the little fellow have been futile, met with more cynicism on his/her part which is evident by the increasing of the distance from which he/she watches me.

Can any bird behavioral scientists amongst you lot propose a theory as to what could be the purpose this dark spy? Is this something birbs do often in Germany?

Hello, I’m in Düsseldorf right now and I‘m on my way to Amsterdam, the FlixBus driver asked me to show the passport and ticket but I only had the Aufenthaltstitel and the ticket so I only showed him that. He said that next time I must have my passport with me and let me go with it. Would there be any problem when I went back from Amsterdam in Germany if I don’t have my passport? Thank you

I am a Turkish citizen, i don't live in Germany or have any relatives but i've visited Koln, Dusseldorf, Berlin and Hamburg for business and i pretty much love what's going on in the beautiful cities of Germany.

Recently, i've got some savings for a weekend escape. I don't want anything "tiring" if that's the right word. I want to fly to a city, take a train to some local village and explore on my own. You know, take photos and explore as a traveler, not a tourist.

I've found that Wernigerode is the perfect place for me (i would take recommendations any day from locals) to hike and explore the city. I need help to make this plan happen.

1. What is the easiest way to visit Wernigerode?
2. Which places you recommend me to go drink coffee, hike, explore, sightsee or anything?
3. Do you have any other recommendations for basically anything?
4. Do i need to know some information before visiting this place?

One part of the AfD programme in Saxony-Anhalt that caught our attention is its approach to public broadcasting. The party wants to terminate the state treaty underpinning MDR, while journalists we spoke to described growing hostility towards their work on the ground.

The election obviously raises much bigger questions about the AfD potentially governing a German state for the first time, but I'm particularly curious about this aspect from a German perspective:

How seriously do you take the threat to MDR? And do you see reform of public broadcasting and political pressure against independent journalism as two separate debates — or are they becoming increasingly difficult to separate?

Hi. I’m currently working as a truck driver in Baden-Württemberg and winter is coming and I usually play World of Warcraft then. I live in a house with other drivers and while we do have a wireless router it’s not that good. I don’t want to get a new router because that’s too much hassle. I worked at a café in Germany for about one year. My contract ended on 31 August 2026 and I have now received my final salary/payslip.
I was sick on 27 August while I was still employed and had a doctor’s sick note/AU for that day.
My former manager has now told me in writing that they did not accept my sick leave because someone apparently saw me outside for a walk in the evening. They said that if I was sick, I should have stayed at home.
Can my employer legally refuse to pay my sick day simply because someone claims they saw me outside?
Is it worth fighting for? Also i was heavily discriminated on my workplace. One of my shift leaders got to know from my others colleagues that I do trading. Then he came to me and told me to set up trading account and show me how it is done and I told him okay on my free time I will like call him somewhere else and then show him how it’s done so he tried to meet a couple of times outside work and because of my personal schedule I couldn’t meet him so said no multiple times. so after that he got very angry and one day I was like working and if you want to eat something, you have to buy even for the employees so I was telling him that I want to drink something and want to eat something and willing to buy then he was like laughing and he told me that I will not let you buy anything or eat anything. You didn’t do my work so I will not do your work. He is the one that saw me that day and told this to my manager. And funniest part is he is a asylum seeker. Can i take any action against him?

Hi! I’m an exchange student from South Korea, and I recently arrived in Germany for the first time. I’ll be staying here for the next six months.

I have chronic mastitis, and back in Korea, I had to visit the hospital fairly often to have abscesses drained. My breast inflammation can suddenly flare up, especially when I’m tired, so I never really know when it might come back. Because of this, I signed up for TK public health insurance in Germany and also brought a medical letter from my doctor in Korea explaining my condition and medical history.

I’ve heard that in Germany, mastitis is usually treated by a gynecologist (Frauenarzt/Gynäkologe) and that it can take quite a long time to get a first appointment with a new doctor. Would it be a good idea to make an appointment in advance, even though I don’t currently have any symptoms?

In Korea, I would normally only make an appointment when my symptoms actually appeared, so I’m not sure what I would even say or ask for if I went to see a doctor while I’m currently symptom-free. I’m mainly worried that if it suddenly flares up, I might not be able to get an appointment quickly enough.

Also, if possible, could anyone recommend a gynecologist or clinic in Berlin that has experience treating mastitis or breast inflammation?

I’m a Dane who would like to learn more about present day Germany. I’m looking for book recommendations dealing with politics, economics, Germany’s role in the EU etc. It must be a relatively new book. Preferably written by journalists or professors. Maybe including interviews with “regular Germans”.

Surprisingly we don’t really have any books in Denmark dealing with these topics that I know of, except for one, which was very politically biased. Unbiased is very important to me. Must be available in English since my German is not good enough. Thanks!

Hello the I am 22 years old Ukrainian guy, who is living in Germany for 4-5 years, hiding from Russian-Ukranian war. During this years I was studing in Language Courses, Weiterbildung and in the Last time in Ausbildung as IT-Asistent in OSZ IMT. Sadly I failed the trial time and for two months I was looking for alternative to continue the Ausbildung and also I've already found a Coach to help me with Ausbildung. But right now I got the Termin with my Berator for explaining: "Why didn't I warn Job-center, that I failed the study?" I dunno what should I do, what should I say, because Job-center is like torture to me, will go to jail or not? Should I pay the high price?

Hi, I'm moving to Bonn for university in a month. I live in the US currently. I'm medicated for ADHD here (Ritalin) but I doubt the questionnaire used for my diagnosis would be enough to continue my prescription when I arrive.

What does the standard testing process for ADHD involve in Germany? What specific tests are used? I'll need to get back on Ritalin ASAP and I'll probably have to spend quite a bit on private pay.
