And some more of course but these are all core people we should target.

Meng is basically a goner come 2028 primaries and so is Hillary Scholten.

I need to know which DSA member Mamdani will endorse in 2 years time against Meng (I can't wait 2 years I need to know now).

Electoral Politics I feel so angry with Jared Moskowitz

I just got back from 2 days in a cabin away from social and discovered that Jared Moskowitz and 7 other democrats voted to “condemn” socialism and the DSA. WTF! 🤬

Condemn is in quotes because the vote itself is meaningless. It is not and will not become law. But I find this so offensive and it leaves me feeling like I will no longer bend to pressure on my vote. I will not vote blue no matter who. I will vote my conscience, period. I will vote for those with policies that will protect lower and middle classes from the billionaires raping the rest of the country through buying democrats and republicans. Am I wrong? I love to hear some other members thoughts.

Discussion Black socialists of America

The main concern of mine and mostly what I’ve heard outside of DSA circles is the party is filled with white people. I have my own problems with identity politics, but it does seem like DSA as a political movement isn’t trying to reach out to other communities to accurately represent how diverse this country is.

Is there anything your chapter is doing to change it?

Discussion How open are your chapter's zoom meetings?

Our meetings are public facing and I think that's cool. I like that people can test out our org before committing to join.

That said, how many meetings is enough to say the "trial period" is done? We have a repeat guest who is not DSA but joins our Electoral meetings and that gives him the platform to try to tell our members how to vote/organize. Info is great and all, but we don't need or want to platform PEP people.

So yeah, how do you handle non members that speak at your meetings? How long do you let them participate without being members? What restrictions (if any) do you put on these guests?

Discussion Ensureing the protection of rights under socialism

The DSA program calls for replacing the supreme court with a judiciary subordinate to congress

I understand opposition to the court as it currently is, given that it is allowing most of the rights violations and corruption of the Trump regime to be implemented. However, a substantial part of the problem is what the court fails to strike down, and giving the court less power does not fix this aspect.

Under a system where the court could not strike down acts of congress, what is to prevent congress from passing laws that violate rights? I understand that a socialist state would be more democratic, with ranked choice and proportional representation, but that does not prevent a majority of citizens from electing a majority of congresspeople who want to oppress a minority, or who want to ban all political opposition, thus ending the democratic socialist republic.

This is not a defense of SCOTUS, which is failing to protect rights, but a question about how to protect rights in the future. Getting rid of something that is failing to stop problems is not bad, but is also not enough of a plan to actually stop those problems.

So how would a socialist government be set up in a way that the legislature would be prevented from violating the rights of minorities?

Electoral Politics Wisconsin 2028 Idea

I just realized last night that we have a big potential opportunity. In Wisconsin in 2028 There will be a senate race, the seat is currently held by a republican, but there's been indications he won't run for re-election, so it might even be an open seat which would make this plan easier.

What I think We should do is encourage Mark Pocan, a progressive federal representative who represents the Madison area of Wisconsin, who's been there for over a decade, to run for this senate seat. This would give us an extra progressive senator and funnily enough, it would mean that Wisconsin would be the first state to be represented entirely by gay senators, a lesbian and gay man.

This would then leave Mark Pocan's seat open, and that would give Francesca Hong the opportunity to take it. Her profile was heavily boosted thanks to the governor race, and while she lost, she only lost by a small margin and did better than should've been expected. She also represents a part of Madison in the state legislature, so she already lives in the congressional district she would run in, and this would give us one extra easy DSA member in congress.

Discussion Sexism/Misogyny

QUESTION: What examples of sexism and/or misogyny have you seen/experienced in your chapter? In the org more broadly?

I, a woman in her mid-twenties, have been a member of my chapter for nearly 5 years and have held a leadership position for much of my time in DSA. With that, I have both witnessed and experienced instances of sexism and outright misogyny. When it has tried to be addressed, it is met with gaslighting, minimizing, pivoting, dog piling, whisper networks, narrative control and other acts of sweeping the issue under the rug to do more “socialism” (ie internal chapter debate on fruitless proposals).

It talks about some of the flaws in rhetoric that leftist organizations in the United States have, such as putting excessive emphasis on cultural issues and academic talking points over the struggles of the working class.

Discussion Asheville Built So Much Housing That Landlords are Begging

I know that we talk a lot about public housing and the like, and I think it is important. But fundamentally housing does still seem to be governed to some extent by supply constraints. Accordingly in my view it is essential that we move past just looking at tenants’ rights and rent control and public housing and look increasingly at overall construction, especially in places with tough housing markets, so that we can keep human suffering to a minimum. But let me know what y’all think about some level of YIMBY (even if we don’t like Reddit hyper-YIMBYism).

I don’t want to abandon tenant’s rights or public housing anytime soon. Nobody get that twisted. I just want a discussion here.
