Hey y’all, I went to the Beltline Transit meeting about an hour ago! Here’s a summary for those who couldn’t attend. They also posted the presentation online as well. Most of the information is on the powerpoint but there were some neat in-person charts such as the routes placed over a satellite view of the city, and “how far can I get from ____ in 30 minutes”. There was a great turnout as well, the room was full of people!
- SW & SE alignments are the same. Gap between Boulevard and Glenwood is a known concern. As if a station will fill it is TBD, theres some tax situation with a nearby property + the 40ft elevation difference.
- NW Alignment LPA is the CSX route alongside the existing freight corridor. Highest ridership, highest speeds, lowest capital cost, direct Piedmont Hospital connection, etc. The least complicated of the three.
- The first infill station they’re working on is Murphy Crossing. They’re going to determine everything related to that such as design and alternatives.
- Beltline Loop, North Loop, South Loop lines, each with 20 minute headaways (so 10 since the entire thing is interlined).
- Ridership projections of 4.2M. With 40% transit dependent and 60% choice.
- Cost estimates still the same. Wont change until the future if need be.
- 22 miles of LRT still the end goal.
- (Edit, forgot): They’re going to re-engage with the community regarding Crosstown West. I think they needed to adjust some things since they haven’t really done anything regarding it in 10 years. Based on the most recent map the routing has been slightly adjusted.
- They aim to release the full completed study by the end of this year. This was the 4th and final public outreach event. This is “the most about Beltline transit we’ve ever known” which is a milestone. They have a clear vision for the entire loop.
NO MENTION OF STREETCAR EAST, BUT FROM THE STAFF I ASKED:
- Not much information known beyond the Mayor’s announcement. Best way to get information and make our voices heard is to show up to meetings and keep contacting our elected officials.

Edit: I did not include the matching grant of $1.25 million (https://www.ajc.com/news/2026/06/atlanta-beltline-study-biased-toward-autonomous-shuttles-complaint-alleges/) in my calculations. It's unclear if that $1.25 is in-kind or actual explicit costs. I've updated the web page and workbooks in the github repo to reflect both the known $1.75 million cash grant and the total $3 million reported cost.
So, with a total cost of $3 million, this brings the per rider cost to $191 for July 2026 🫠
From an Open Records Act request to the Atlanta Beltline, I requested ridership data on the ATL Spoke service for June and July, 2026. Why? Because I kept seeing empty or near-empty shuttles crawling their way to/from West End MARTA and Lee+White.
I wanted to keep an open mind on if ATL Spoke was a viable interim measure to Beltline rail. But to me, intuitively, spending $1.75m on a slow-moving robot bus vanity project seemed like a fairly bad idea.
Spoiler alert: It's probably a very bad idea and waste of money, and most likely 6x to 9x the cost of providing the same service via a MARTA bus.
With the Beltline's public meeting tonight on "Citywide Conversation: Beltline Transit Study (In-Person)", I wanted to get this out before then.
I have a write-up on my analysis and findings at https://mikehikes.github.io/beep-analysis/

Didn't take long for these guys to go full tech overlord levels of evil.
Requesting nonprofits to relocate from downtown to reduce the unhoused population, all to improve their ROI for development in an area they knew very well was home to these nonprofits and unhoused, is repulsive imo. But why stop there when you can implore the city to spend money on robot-police dogs to "deter homeless people from public camping?"
Quotes from the article:
“The next time you’re about to make a donation to a shelter or outreach organization downtown, ask them when they’re going to relocate outside of downtown,” Cummings suggested."
"Cummings said people avoid downtown Atlanta because of “uncomfortable situations,” like getting harassed or asked for money. He called out the lack of police and homeless people in the area."
"In the SoDo vision, robot dogs can deter homeless people from public camping, or prevent evening break-ins. “We need robots, APD and MARTA to enforce the existing law,” Cummings said."
So glad Invest Atlanta partners with these guys...

Looking for great Thai recommendations in Atlanta! Has anyone been to Paya or Pink Lotus, or do you have another favorite spot?
Tuk Tuk was one of my favorites, and I also love La Moon, but I'd like to try somewhere new!
Edited to add: On this specific occasion, I'm looking for somewhere a little "cuter" and vibier for a birthday dinner!

I’m in terminal F and I feel like I have struck out a few times getting any type of decent breakfast. I had to get a really gross egg sandwiching and Charley’s cheesesteak last time.
What are my best options that early?

I collect rare and out of print vhs, DVDs and Blu-ray’s. What are some good thrift stores , pawn shops and other stores that I should check out in the greater atl area?
And I’m aware there are collectible shops that would have these but I don’t wanna pay their prices.
I’m looking for the stores with walls of movies for $1-4 per .

Atlanta Public Schools is moving into the next phase of a complex redistricting plan which includes the closure of schools and sale of property due to a $100 million budget shortfall, low enrollment, and dwindling birthrates.

Exactly what the title says.
Pregnant New England transplant.
I moved down with 4 12 packs. I should have brought 100. I’ve been savoring them like the sweet nectar they are over the past 4 months. Kroger / polar / lacroix / etc doesn’t hit the same.
Save me from paying $17 for a 12 pack from some sketchy 3rd party seller on Walmart . Com and please tell me SOMEWHERE down here sells it? Polar feels more niche than Canada dry imo. Specifically just plain carbonated water. Not club soda. Seltzer water. I know. Specific.
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

On a non-weekend, non holiday, what can I expect for time to go through TSA lately. Also, which offsite parking has shuttle bus directly to International Terminal not just Domestic Terminal. TIA.
this happened to me yesterday. the blade fall off from a vehicle in front of me, slightly hit the white car on left lane than bounce and roll to my lane. could have hit through my windshield but it tried to aim for my condenser instead

I own an Atlanta based restaurant and looking for a company to install and tear down an over the top holiday bar display. Last year I did it myself and it was so exhausting. Does anyone have any advise?

I have a cotton baseball cap I want to get embroidered with flowers.
Any recommendations for custom hand embroiderers in the area? Also have a tight deadline, a little less than 2 weeks, but am willing to pay extra to expedite the work.

Hey y'all, new soccer fan here. I was wondering what the best soccer bars are. I heard that some soccer bars/restaurants align more to certain teams so I was wondering what the best place is to watch for Barca fans.

Anyone here fly the DJI Neo 1 or Neo 2 in FPV?
I’m in Atlanta, Georgia and just recently started flying FPV with the Neo 1 and Neo 2. I’d really like to connect with other pilots who fly the Neo in FPV.
Are there any FPV groups, meetups, or good places around Atlanta where people get together to fly? I’d love to meet some other pilots, learn from others, and find some good spots to practice.
If you fly a Neo 1 or Neo 2 in FPV, let me know.
Would be great to connect with some local pilots.

I am here for two days for work and have been trying to find maehwasu for quite a while-- I'm originally from Ohio but know Atlanta has a large Korean population. Does ANYONE know a store that definitively has maehwasu in stock recently? Called a few hmarts and no luck so far. I'm staying near Buford but willing to go far for this lol.

So I just moved here, and I’m looking for a place to get my haircut.
I have really tight curly hair that I like to keep in a modern-ish mullet/jewfro. Similar to the photo below.
Does anyone have recommendations for a place for me to get my haircut around Chamblee/Brookhaven?
